See, it really isnât your fault that you didnât notice Newt was in love with you
Heâs nice to everybody, how could you be the exception?
Except, when Newt is nice to others, itâs usually asking them how theyâre doing, or telling Gally or Alby to back off for a while
When Newt is nice to youâ well, thatâs a whole other situation
He brings a glass of water across the whole Glade because you mentioned you were thirsty once
Shiver by accident? His jacket is already around you
Minho jokes that Newt would become a Builder if you asked, and judging by the way the blond keeps asking if the Homestead is to your liking, he might not even be wrong about that
It takes dire circumstances for you to finally realize that Newt isnât just being friendly because he wants to be your friend
Namely, plenty of alcohol and an extra special Bonfire Night
Forget the Greenie who brought on the bonfire in the first place, this isnât about him
Newt knew this was his chance, although he didnât expect to finally tell you his greatest secret by blurting out that he loved you four drinks in
At first, you thought he was jokingâ boy could hardly stand on two feet, let alone say something like that and mean it
But, as you looked in his eyes, you realized that this wasnât just a figment of his sloshed brain
Newt was in love with you. Maybe always had been. Maybe always would be
And you? You loved him too
Newt woke up the next morning with a pounding headache and your hand in his
The headache was nothing, he had you, and thatâs all Newt cared about

You and Newt were inseparable in the Glade. You did nearly everything together, following each other around, finding comfort in one another. It changed once you escaped the maze, however.
Even though you shared a room in your new home inside a lab, it didn't help whatsoever. After that first warm shower, everything between you two just changed.
You were never able to have lunch with your friends, always being pulled away for more and more testing. You'd seen Newt following Thomas around like a lost dog.
Between all the stress and physical deterioration, you didn't have time to talk or share thoughts with him anymore. He seemed to think the same way as you basically ignored each other as the days passed. Everything seemed to be a problem now, even though no words were spoken, only looks, or for that matter, the lack of them.
Upon finding out that WCKD was never gone in the first place, you quickly join the escape with your new friend Aris, crawling around through the vents at dark. The escape was quick and calculated, and nearly ended in death, probably a solid fourteen times. But, your group escaped to the dark, sandy scorch outside.
Bergs fly overhead, lights shining onto the sand in search of you. You all ran through the rough terrain as fast as you could and hid behind a large area of hills, waiting for them to retreat, hoping they wouldn't find you.
Unluckily, you slid down next to Newt, not a glance shared between you two. You instead looked over at Aris and Thomas to your right, making sure they were both in one piece.
The long, painful hike through the scorch continued, Newt behind Thomas and Teresa while you were behind those three, then Minho and Fry. Winston and Aris were behind you, symmetrically separating you and Newt.
The night passes, hours and hours of walking and sweat fatiguing you.
You stumble upon a mall, building up your outfits and learning some more about the Cranks that flooded the scorch. Your fight through the mall was intense and still really God damn awkward as you found yourself helping Newt up off the floor after being tripped, nearly left for dead for the Cranks.
You sprint behind the group, catching up as Thomas leads you to the exit.
Once the adrenaline wore off, it was back to the exhausting trudging through the sand.
You kept your distance with Newt, especially after Winston had fallen ill to the Flare Virus. You'd both known Winston for most of the time you could remember about your lives. The pain after hearing the lonely gunshot in the distance stopped you all in your tracks before continuing some moments later.
The days were far too long for the group of teenagers. Why you were all bundled up in a desert was beyond you, but you'd take listening to the others rather than dying because you didn't cover up. No one knew who was actually immune or not, so it wouldn't be worth it to try and test it out.
You'd taken refuge under some rocks in a little flatland area in the desert once it hit dark. You'd barely spoken in the past few days, malnourished and exhausted. You, Aris, Fry, and Newt are the stragglers left awake, baking cans of beans over the fire while also tending to it, making sure the others got some warmth as they slept.
As the hours passed, Fry and Aris fell asleep, cuddling up in the heavy clothing they found extra warmth in. Who knew a desert would be freezing once the sun had set? Obviously not you, since most of any important memory ever had been wiped, but yknow.
That left you and Newt awake, sitting a few feet away from each other, an awkward silence among you. You tap your fingers on the sand beneath you, then graze them around in little patterns, unable to find yourself tired even if you wanted to. You were exhausted tired, not sleepy tired, sadly.
The blonde surprisingly speaks up.
"Thanks for saving my ass in the mall"
You glance over at him, then look back down at the sand beneath your fingertips. You nod. "Yeah, anytime"
He slowly nods, looking out at the empty miles of sand and dirt surrounding you in all directions. "Is something wrong between us?" He asks, "You haven't been talking to me at all, and you've always got this intimidating look on your face when I look over at you, so I mean, I didn't wanna bother you, ya know?"
You shrug in response. "I mean, it started back at that lab. They were always testing on me and I was just tired, but once we escaped I kinda thought you were trying to ignore me. I dunno, sorry if I read that wrong"
His expression morphs to one of sadness and guilt before wrapping you in a hug, pulling you closer to him.
"I'm sorry, I wasn't trying to ignore you, Y/n"
You lightly smile, wrapping your arms around him. "Sorry for kind of being a bitch about it"
"Look, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. We did kind of escape the maze, then WCKD after being tricked, and we've been running through this bloody desert for days. I don't blame you. If anything, I'll blame Rat-Man for burning you out with testing in that lab. " The dirty blonde smiles, patting your back.
"Oh, thank you, Newt. How could I ever repay you?" You chuckle, pulling away from the hug as he does.
He shrugs, a devious yet smug smirk on his face. "You could repay me in water?"
"My cantine has been empty since this morning!"
"Damnit"

Your head was hurting, your ears were ringing, the loud sound of mechanics happening around you wasn't helping. You slowly opened your eyes, taking the time to look around you. It seemed to be like an elevator filled with supplies, food and even animals.Â
Suddenly, the motion stopped in a loud thump before a red light started to flicker. You started to panic a bit, you were lost and couldn't tell how you arrived here. Above you, the ceilings opened and you thought you'd maybe have answers to your questions.Â
The sudden sunlight blinded you and you had to cover your face with your hands. You took a minute to analyse what was happening, people were chatting and it seemed like they were surprised to find you here. Your eyes were finally adapting to the light and you were able to discover the faces of the boys above you. You raised your eyebrow, surprised to find them wearing these types of clothes you never saw anyone wear anymore. You were even more surprised to find yourself wearing the same ones.Â
A man shouted, making you jump in surprise, and everybody stopped talking before a blond boy went down into what you heard was "The Box". You swore you heard this noun before. "Hi," the sandy-haired boy greeted you, holding out his hand for you to take. "Can you remember your name?" he asked with a quiet voice, it seemed like he was trying not to scare you.Â
Your eyes widened when you heard what he said, maybe you never heard of The Box, maybe you read about it. You took a time to observe the blonde boy. "What is your name?" you asked back.
It couldn't be true, it didn't make any sense. "Newt." Your mouth fell agape as you heard his name. Was it possible to teleport into a book? You looked more carefully at the boy and recognized all the descriptions you used to read about. You thought you were dreaming and pinched your arm to make sure you were truly awake. You felt the pain. It was genuinely happening.Â
After a minute you realised Newt was still holding his hand out for you and you finally grabbed it. When you were on your feet you took the time to look around you and saw four huge walls enclosing the square of grass you were standing on. "Welcome to the-"Â
"Glade..." you finished Newt sentence with a smile on your lips. The gardener shared a horrified look with who you recognized as Alby. The later asked Newt to bring you out of The Box.Â
Finally by everybody's side, you were contemplating the Glade, trying to find everything you read about. But before you were able to see more you felt someone grabbing your arm. "How do you know where you are?" Ably asked you. "What's your name? Why are you a girl?" he continued his questions more and more aggressively, visibly panicked.Â
"Um... it's a little complicated," you saw Newt making a weird face when you spoke.Â
"What's that accent?" he asked. He would be smiling if you weren't standing there when you shouldn't be. That's the thing. Being able to read in English was something, being able to talk without an accent was another.Â
"French," you said shyly. You were grateful they could still understand you but you felt a little dumb, standing there, in the middle of boys who either seemed like it was the first time they saw a girl- well it was actually- or like they wanted to directly throw you in the Pit without thinking about who you were.Â
"Do you know why you're here?" Newt asked and you shook your head. You loved the maze runner universe but it wasn't the best one Destiny had chosen to put you in. Your survival skills weren't the best they had seen.
The tall boy you reckon must be Gally talked, pulling you out of your thoughts. "That's not what matters Newt! How do you know where you are? Everybody forgets what they know when they come here!"
"I know," you said quietly, timid under Gally's gaze. It was legitimate to be freaked out by your weird arrival here. But the thing was you didn't know how you came here. You knew who they were, you even knew their future, this thought sent a wave of questions in your mind but it wasn't the moment. The last thing you remembered was reading a book. You dug into your mind to find an answer. Everybody around you was waiting for you to talk and you felt intimated.Â
Apparently, Newt could feel it because he sent everybody- except the Keepers- back to their work. The boys walked you to the Council Hall, they all seemed lost in their own thoughts. You awkwardly took a seat in front of everybody and bent your head down, even if you knew them you couldn't help but feel shy as they all watched you attentively. Alby finally started to talk. "First question. What's your name?"Â
"Y/n," you said, trying your best to hide your French accent, it wasn't the moment to lose credibility, you needed to be trusted.
 "How much do you know about here?"Â
"A lot."Â
"How is that possible?"Â
"Um..." there was no way there were going to believe you, you didn't even believe your own words as you spoke. "Well- I don't know exactly how I came here but..." you tried your best to search every bit of information your brain held. "It will sound crazy, but... I-in my world you don't exist." The boys in front of you looked septical at your explanation for the moment. "I know you all but from books. In my world, the maze, the Glade, WICKED and all of you are just ink on paper." You shut your eyes, refusing to look at them for the moment, you were afraid that their faces would tell you they were going to abandon you in the Maze. "B-but I don't know exactly how I came here, what kind of magic bought me here but now that I am there, I may know the way out."
This caught everybody's attention and while you thought it was going to be an argument for you to stay and not be killed, it seemed like they feared your even more. "Really?" Alby asked.Â
"Yes," you said. "In my world, your universe has six books and right now you are in the first one," you took a deep breath, omitting the explanation with the sequels and novellas, this part was going to be complicated to explain. "You guys escape at the end of the first book. I read it multiple times, I think I can help you get out of here."Â
They didn't answer anything before Minho talked "How do I know if what you're saying is true?"Â
"Ask me questions."Â
"How are we getting out of here?"Â
"We can't until they decide we will. WICKED modify the sections every day. In the books, they escape when a guy named Thomas and a girl named Theresa arrive here but they have a special link with WICKED." You went on and on about everything you remembered, Ben's attack, Minho's night in the Maze, the doors staying open at night. You hesitated on talking about Gally's being stung and decided that there was already too much information.Â
They carefully listened to you, something asking you to repeat because of your French accent or demanding you to explain further some points. You didn't know for how long you talked but your throat was sore and you terribly needed to drink "Can I have water?" you waited for them to calm down and stop talking before asking your question.Â
Frypan left the room to grab you a glass and other Keepers decided to finally leave the room. It was just you and Newt now. "Are you okay?" he asked, he genuinely sound like he cared and your heart missed a beat and you nodded. "I think you already know everything but- do you want to discover the Glade?"Â
You nodded, this time with a smile on your lips, you couldn't believe Newt was standing in front of you. He was a character you loved and cared about so much, it seemed unreal.Â
You just had the time to receive your glass of water before you started your visit. Newt still took the time to explain everything as he would do with any greenie. Quickly the night fell and you knew what was waiting for you. The bonfire.Â
The idea made you smile and you started to think about Gally's drink, was the taste as horrible as you read about? You didn't have to think a lot because you rapidly found yourself with a jar between your hands. "C'mon Greenie," Newt said with a tipsy smile, "Drink."Â
When the beverage touched your tongue you tried your best not to spill it everywhere. It truly tasted disgusting. "What's inside?"Â
"Ah! They don't tell you in the books?" Newt smirked and you shook your head. "Then I won't tell anything. It's not like I know anyway." With your back against a log, you gathered your legs to your chest, resting your head on your knees. You breathe happily.Â
You couldn't express the way you felt but it was a peaceful moment. The sound of Gladers having fun, of the fire and the burning wood. Newt's laughter. He was the best part of all this.
He was making you feel comfortable, you weren't nervous at the idea of recreating what you read when you were by his side. You had to admit you had to resist the urge to just hug him. He deserved a hug so much.Â
"Newt?" The boy turned his head to look down at you.
 "Yeah?"Â
"You know in all the books I've read about all of you? You're my favourite character." You hoped you didn't sound weird but judging by the way his smile soften you were almost sure he was flattered by what you just said.Â
"Why?"
You felt warmth winning your cheek "Well, I think you're brave. I only know you from books but- after everything you've been through you're still kind to everyone." You unconsciously looked at his limp. You continued to talk about the comfort he bought you before your smile faded "You always try your best and- and I think you deserve a happy ever after. The best happy ever after." You felt your heart clenching in your chest as you thought about the ending he had.
Newt was looking at you with a gentle smile, touched by your words. It was a weird feeling to have a stranger understand you so much. You knew what your goal was now. It wasn't just to escape and join the Safe Heaven. You were going to save Newt.

â˘*´¨`*â˘.¸¸.â˘*´¨`*â˘.¸¸.â˘*´¨`*â˘.¸¸.â˘*
People say time heals. But to you, time was the opposite of what you wanted. The more time passed, the more you missed Newt. The longer you spent apart from him, the more your heart ached, and burned.
He healed you, and without him- time is nothing but an aggravating evil.
Your heart tore in two pieces the day he left the Glade, choosing your brother over Newt. You were scared to leave, all you knew was the Glade. You remember the look of defeat on Newtâs face, how he welled up with tears as you gave him one last goodbye. How tight he held you before he was hurried by Thomas. You wished he never let go, you wished he never left you.
You were afraid, terrified even, but as you watched the love of your life leave the only home youâve ever known you broke. Shattering like a mirror - splitting your ideals from reality. To follow him, youâd risk your life to do it.
Gally was watching you closely, you knew it. His eyes never left you when the blonde left you behind, he had a firm grip on your shoulder for comfort. You knew it was to also keep you within the Glade.
It was minutes later, your shoulder ripped from Gallyâs hold, throwing yourself into the maze. Shouts of protest bubbled from the remaining boys in the Glade. Gallyâs shout was the loudest, his own footsteps following behind you.
You werenât worried about him catching you, as you had always been faster than him. You didnât know the maze, for fucks sake you were a gardener with Newt, but you had seen the map. Minho was one of your closest friends, he shared everything with you. You had helped Minho study the map with Thomas, so you remembered generally where you were supposed to go.
The hard part was trying to fight the feeling that you were losing control of your own body. Your fingers had grown numb and your eyesight had fallen hazy. The further you ran down the path of the Maze, the less yourself you felt. You felt angry, angry that Newt would truly leave without you, angry with Thomas for cutting your goodbye so short. You couldnât explain it, but you were angry with the world.
You had lost Gally minutes ago, you didnât care. You needed to reach the group.
When you reached the Griever Hole you stopped in your tracks, and everything went black.
â
There you were again, you were in a new place, your surroundings electronic and gray. As the hazy feeling in your body faded you saw in front of you were your friends, Newt, Thomas, Minho- but something was wrong. Chuck, on the floor, bleeding.
Thatâs when you felt it, a flame of pain erupted in your chest. Looking down to your hand you realized you had something in your hand. A gun. You thought.
No, no, no, no-
You looked down to where the pain was in your chest, seeing a large sharp pole sticking what felt like, straight through your heart. You tried to gasp, as time seemed to pick up its pace, two bodies rushed to you. One catching you before you fell to the ground.
The two bodies were Newt and Minho, it seemed as though chaos was erupting around them and you. Light poured into the room, you could only hear Newtâs desperate cries.
âPlease (Y/N) stay with me-â salty tears trailed down the blonde's face as he held you closely to his own body. Newts free hand grazed your dirt stained and sweaty face. Your skin was so pale, it made him sick. Minho stood above him, his face filled with fear. He was yelling at someone across the room, his angry words too distant to understand.
The soft touch of Newtâs hands sent you into a flurry of unexplainable emotions. You felt like you couldnât breathe when he was holding you, although - the spear sticking out of your chest probably had something to do with that.
âI..â you tried your best to gasp out a few words, sorrow coating your tone, âIâm.. Iâm so.. So sorry.â Tears welled up in your lashes, you couldnât see anymore. Your vision was failing.
â(Y/N) please-â Newtâs voice echoed through your once again hazy mind, you could tell he was crying; his voice raspy, âPlease donât leave me, I.. I love you please baby.â
His heart wrenching pleas were the last thing you heard as you faded into nothingness once again.
â
Months passed without Newt, unsure if he was even alive. You and Gally had been saved by Lawrence and his group. Only being picked up moments after Newt had been snatched up by WCKD. It was scary, leaving the only home youâve ever known, knowing you killed the sweetest boy youâve ever met, Chuck.
After telling Gally how you werenât even conscious when it happened; he tried to convince you it was WCKD who was controlling you. And although you knew this was true, you couldnât help but feel as though it was you the whole time. You remember feeling angry before, but you never wanted to kill anyone.
And now here you were, perched on the large windowsill in Lawrenceâs office, gazing out into the Scorch as your brother patrolled the outside of the Last City.
You were close with Lawrence, he grew to be like a father figure over you and Gally. You had confided with him about Newt and your friends in the Glade, and he understood. Lawrence himself lost a lot of friends, especially since he was half cranked-out.
Gally had been a big support system for you as well, he had comforted you through the nights you had cried yourself into exhaustion, missing the one person who made you feel whole.
You missed the warm summer nights in the Glade you spent with Newt, under the starry sky - wrapped up in his arms. He held you so tight, like he never wanted to let go - but he did.
âY/N,â Lawrenceâs raspy voice startled you from your thoughts, looking to the older man you noticed he was holding an orchid gazing at you quizzically, âWhere did you go?â
You pulled your legs up to your chest, glancing out the window once more as you hummed in response, âOh you know, wonderland.â You scoffed slightly at your own words, turning back to Lawrence.
Lawrence chuckled in response, his focus shifting back to the roses he was watering.
You sighed, your head resting on the window pane next to you. Closing your eyes tiredly - before you could pass out you heard commotion in the hallway. You sighed frustratedly, tucking yourself further behind the plants that guarded the windowsill. Maybe it was Gally finally coming back from patrol, you didnât care though as you really just wanted to get some shut eye.
The door of Lawrenceâs office flew open, causing your own eyes to snap open. You were hidden far enough in the window that you couldnât make out who it was that had barged in so rudley.
âGally- Iâm glad to see you made it back, Jasper told me what happened,â the Crank man hummed his words.
âIt was a slaughter,â The gruff voice of your brother seemed to cut through the eerie environment of Lawrenceâs office, âthere was nothing we could do against those guns.â Your heart sunk, you didnât want to hear anymore - tuning out Lawrenceâs response you played with your hands. Ignoring the aching feeling of sorrow in your chest, more people dead in an already deserted world.
Lawrences sudden sternness of voice caught your attention, causing you to tune into the conversation once more, âNow. Who are these people? Why are they here?â
Gally brought someone to Lawrence?
There was a tense pause of silence, and you held your breath, awaiting the unknown person to speak.
âWe need to get into WCKD.â
The familiar voice sent you into a spiral of emotions, your body freezing up and going numb, was it really Thomas? You made a move to stand as Thomas continued speaking - âGally said you can get us through the walls.â Your heart stopped, it really was him, his voice was more serious than it was back in the Glade, maybe even a bit fearful.
You froze before moving into sight of the others. You were preparing for the worse, what if Newt wasnât with him? What if⌠You didnât even want to think about it - your eyes welled up with tears as you hesitantly moved from behind the wall of plants.
You froze, looking to where the familiar group stood in front of you - each of their eyes now on you. Every expression showed surprise, but you didnât care about that - your own eyes meeting the one person you missed so dearly. Newt.
You gasped - the tears that threatened to fall earlier now trailing down your face.
The blonde boy lurched forward, his arms around your frame immediately, crushing you with a force you didnât know he had. His own shoulders seemed to shake - he was crying too.
You broke a sob as your arms wrapped weakly around his waist. You never expected to see him again, you thought he was gone.
âNewt- Iâm so sorry,â your sobs broke through his chest as your arms pulled him closer to your body.
He shushed you immediately âNo (Y/N), I shouldnât have ever left you,â his own cries broke his composure- pulling you closer than ever.
Your head shook, apologizing over and over again while Newts lips kissed the top of your head, whispering how much he loved you.
This time, he truly would never leave you behind.

Word count: 1236
Summary: after a really great time the night before, itâs time for you and Thomas to face that maybe the acoustics of the Glade are not ideal for couples.Â
Content: implied sexual content (so heavily implied itâs not even âimpliedâ itâs just not explicitly written), Thomas being a clingy little shit, fluff, morning after fluff, bad dialogue.Â

Hello:))) been reading ur newt hcs and absolutely adored them YOU WRITE HIM SO SWEET. But i was wondering if you would do newt cuddling hcs with a f!reader please? (I havenât requested for you before so if this isn't the type of thing you do just delete this lol)
thanks<3
hello anon!! i'm happy you like those!! i think that newt is the type of person that treats their s/o gentle !! i hope you like this:))))
Newt who can't keep his hands to himself when you're both cuddling. Newt who would pull you into his chest with your back against him so he can kiss your neck. Newt who would put his arm around your waist just to touch you. Newt who would be crazy and rambles whenever he sees you wear his shirts to cuddle or sleep (and when you ask him why, he says "you look hot- i mean beautiful, wait i didn't mean it like your not hot, cause you are hot, i mean- your hot- wait that's not the point- but you look bloody amazing with my shirt"). Newt who can't sleep without you in his arms. Newt who would be very clingy and glued to you when both of you are alone (he's starved for your attention and affection). Newt who doesn't have a 'favourite cuddle position' but he loves it so much when you rest your head on his chest and just lay there. Newt who runs his fingers through your hair and leave a bunch of kisses all over your face whenever he gets the chance. Newt who sometimes wander his hands underneath your shirt (with consent of course) and he just trace circles all over your skin. Newt who sometimes would just lay in your arms tiredly because heâs exhaused from doing all work, helping around the glade, and having many meetings with Alby and the runners(he's a busy man). Newt who would smell a little more earthy when you guys are cuddling before shower. Newt who prefers to cuddle after shower because he thinks you'll like him more if he smells 'sweet like a candy' when you're both cuddling (he used your soap and shampoo because he said it made him "smell like sweets and vanilla" lol ). Newt who would sleep with you with hardly any space between each other. Newt who loves it when you bury your face in his neck and when you play with his hair. Newt who will always pull you back onto the bed and back into his arms if you try to leave or stop cuddling. ("Newt we have to get up! Alby will be mad at us-" "2 more minutes, please love? i'm sure Alby will be fine without me" "Newt, you said that 20 minutes ago."). Newt who doesn't mind being a big spoon or the little spoon when you're both cuddling. Newt who likes it when his arms are securely around your waist & his face in your hair when he's being the big spoon. Newt's arms will be the place you wake up every morning. Newt who would ask if he can play with your hair every time you're both cuddling (he wants to make sure you're giving him consent even tho you've reassured him that he doesn't need to ask that). Newt who would randomly compliment you when your almost asleep ("your so beautiful. like really bloody beautiful, love"). Newt who would sometimes talk in his sleeps because he gets nightmares when he's cuddling you ("please stay, please. don't go. stay with me." "i'm not going anywhere love"). Newt who would easily get sleepy when you run your hands through his hair. Newt who would fall asleep on top of you, then wakes up only to ask if you're okay, if he made you uncomfortable, and why didnât you wake him up in his raspy sleepy voice. Newt who would have a staring contest with you and then make stupid faces so you laugh and he wins the contest (later on he tease you about it). Newt who would stay up with you and just have deep conversations as you both cuddle when you can't sleep ("why do people has to lose the person they love first, to realize they're bloody value and worth? doesn't make sense, what do you think?").
I GOT SO CARRIED AWAY MAKING THIS, IT TURNED OUT SO LONGGGG. I'M SORRY IF THIS IS TOO LONG FOR YOU

The world felt as if it were spinning- no coming to a complete stop. Time felt as if it wasn't a thing. You stood there like a complete idiot with a knife to your throat as you looked at the man you had come to love other the past three years. Millions of thoughts were coming to your head as everyone around you was yelling, you couldn't hear a word anyone was saying all you could hear were the thoughts running trough your head.
Did he even love you? If he did, wouldn't he give anything to be with you, give anything to have a normal life with you outside of this damn Glade. You knew the reasons for this, he was scared, so scared that everything else was blurred and blocked out. His feelings for you didn't feel as strong when the fear was much stronger. And at this moment you wanted to hate him, you wanted to yell and scream at him to just listen to everyone. Listen to you. But he wouldn't and everyone including yourself knew this.
Your eyes were filled with tears, your heart was going so fast you thought it would rip out of your chest completely and you felt as if the world was ending. You didn't think you'd ever feel so bad in your life, the feeling was far worse than fear, it was far worse than the many panic attacks you've had over the years, it was much worse than millions of stabs, you'd even prefer the stabs, you'd prefer the panic attacks. For anything was better than this.
The moment his eyes connected with yours you knew you would never see him again, you knew he was gone, he was already a dead man. And even the thought of leaving him behind made you want to throw up. The thought of begging him to come with you came across your mind many times but you knew better than to beg a dead man to leave his graveyard.
His hard eyes softened when he saw the pain in your eyes, he knew you wanted to go with them, he knew you wanted him to go with you, he knew it all. But he couldn't see past that damn fear.
"Let her go," His voice came out soft, softer than anything you've ever heard coming from his lips. Your eyes didn't leave his, not even when you felt the knife slowly drop from your throat. And before you could stop yourself you ran up to Gally, your shaking hands grabbing his neck and pulling his face down to meet yours.
His lips collided with yours and he didn't stop you, instead he dropped his knife and pulled you in closer, kissing you back with so much passion you thought that maybe this would change his mind, you thought for sure he loved you. But this kiss was a goodbye and you both knew this.
You gripped his hair tighter, going onto your toes to get more acses to him making his grip on your waist tight, so tight it hurt, but you didn't care. The hurt was nothing compared to what you felt in your heart. You wanted nothing more than to be in his arms for the rest of your life, and if you would've known that the last time you'd ever see him smile or laugh was that night you wouldn't have ever looked away.
You pulled away from him, your head leaning on his as he gazed into your eyes. Neither of you said anything, for you both already knew what the other wanted to say. You knew you'd never find another like Gally, and you never wanted to ever try to find someone to replace him. He was the one for you, and now. Now you had to leave him here to die. You were in a nightmare and you were just waiting until the morning came so that you could run back into his arms and everything would be fine again. But that was just a dream at this point. A dream you'd never be able to reach.
You felt cold the second you stepped away from his warm embrace. It took everything in you to keep on moving forward, you didn't even dare to look back. You felt a warm hard on your back right as you rejoined the group of teenagers leaving the Glade.
"It'll be okay," Newt whispered as he wiped your wet face.
The rest of it all came in a blur, you barely remember anything from running in the maze to running from Grievers. And soon you were in a room with dead bodies scattered all over, most due to gun shots. You remembered a video and then your world crashed and crumbed right in front of your eyes.
You remember screams and cries, all coming from you. You remember being pulled away from the only dead body you never wanted to see dead, you remember feeling numb. You remember his face, his eyes. They looked as cold and empty as you felt.
~~~
As the months went on you wished you had never left the Glade in the first place, for the world was nothing any of you expected, it was dark, and dead. Everywhere you looked you saw more and more death, you saw how survival was all anyone ever thought about anymore, your small group seemed to be the only ones who cared about friendship and loyalty.
You were surprised you lasted as long as you did without dying, or without getting the flare but in all honesty it was due to your group, you all saved each other over and over, never leaving anyone behind. So when Minho got captured each and everyone of you wanted to go back fro him, and thats exactly what you did.
You got shoved to the side by Newt as a truck passes by, yours eyes follow it when you see there were about five men sat on top all wearing masks. You start to feel a little uneasy when one of the men doesn't look away from you, his head moving to the side as the truck moves further along the road.
You snap your head back to Newt when he starts walking forward, your eyes roam around, seeing so many people in one spot was rare nowadays and you knew this wouldn't end well, WIKD would never allow it get like this and soon they would put a stop to it.
You saw how Thomas walked ahead of all of you, ignoring Jorge when he tried to stop him, you knew this wasn't the best way to get Minho back but none of you had a better plan so you kept on walking, ignoring the strange feeling in your chest that told you something bad was going to happen.
You looked behind you only to see that same man who you saw on the truck, his eyes were covered by the mask so you didn't know weather or not he was even looking at you, but either or it didn't feel right. Something about him made you feel uneasy, maybe it was his height, he towered over everyone it seemed like, and he had a really good build. He was intimating, and the mask made it worse.
Newt seemed to see this too, he pointed another one out to you, and this made the both of you move faster towards the rest of your group. And before you even realized you were all running again with bombs crashing into the ground all around you.
As you were running you saw someone behind you, you didn't think much of it for everyone was trying to get out before being killed but than you felt strong arms warp around your waist and before you could get out of their grasp they pulled you up.
You screamed and tried hitting the man but he was far too strong. Your wide and worried eyes searched for your friends but you didn't see them anywhere, making fear creep into your body. You turned your head to see it was the same masked man you saw on the truck, his eyes were looking stright ahead and before you knew it you were shoved into a van, hitting the floor with a grunt.
You quickly moved to the back wall when the man got in with you. You looked at them with fear laced in your eyes, there were about three men all in masks and just staring at you. Your breath was coming in and out fast, you looked around trying to see if there was a way out but you knew if you tried they would probably shot you dead.
You jumped when the door slid open but relaxed a little when they threw Thomas in. He was yelling at the man but his yells came to deaf ears when the man shut the door in his face, he turned around, his eyes finding your causing him to relax a little.
You both jerked when the Van started moving, and you tried your best to not freak out. What if they were with Wicked? All kinds of horrible thoughts came to mind but they all vanished when the Van stoped.
Thomas tried to fight off the men when they grabbed him and pulled him out. But due to his fighting they just threw him to the ground. You on the other hand, got out of the van by yourself, your eyes glaring daggers at the man who reached to get you out. But by the look you gave him, he backed away from you.
You ripped your gaze off his, the further you walked the more men you saw, all wearing masks, all carrying weapons, all looking like they could kill you without a single thought, or a single care. Thankfully you saw everyone you came here with, but they were all standing in front of the men, this could very well be your end. And Minho would rot in wicked for who knows how long.
Your heart picked up in pace when a man started talking, his voice was deep but it sounded way too familiar. He was the same man you've been seeing since you got in the city, there was something different about him, but you didn't know what exactly it was.
You could feel Thomas getting impatient the more the man spoke. You cursed to yourself when he finally had enough, pushing the man who was behind him and stepping forward. "What do you mean same side! Who the hell are you?"
Everyone went dead silent, and you could feel yourself holding your breath, waiting for the man to give some kind of reaction, a reaction none of you wanted. But he was quiet for far too long. You furrowed your brows when he turned his head, grabbing his mask with his free hand and pulling it over his head. He looked at the ground for maybe 5 second before turning his head to you all.
Your heart dropped to the ground, the air around you felt thick, and you could feel yourself having trouble breathing. Tears came to your eyes in an instant and every sound around you turned off, all you could hear was a faint buzzing and your pounding heart in your chest.
His eyes connected with yours so fast you thought you had gotten whiplash, you could feel everyones eyes on you, not just Gally's and it was making you feel suffocated. You didn't know what to do, or what to feel. You wanted to cry, yell and scream all at the same time, you wanted to run into his arms and hug him until you died but at the same time you wanted to hit him over and over again for the way he hurt you, and make you leave without him.
But before you could even take a step Thomas lunged forward, hitting Gally straight in the face, hard. So hard Gally fell to the ground with Thomas right on top of him. You wanted to move, run towards them and stop Thomas from hurting him but you couldn't move, no matter how hard you tried too.
Thankfully Newt did it for you, running towards the two boys, he fell beside Thomas, grabbing his hand, stopping him from going further. You could see their lips moving but you didn't know what they were saying, you felt as if you were in a dream, floating out of your body, it didn't feel real. Nothing felt real.
Thomas got off him fast, but you could see he was dripping with anger, anger you were slowly starting to feel. Gally got up and off the ground, moving his jaw with his hand before he eyes you again. His gaze softened, his voice dropped in pitch and he looked almost scared.
"Y/N?" Everyone turned to you again, but you didn't even see anyone, all you could see was red as you looked at the boy who was supposed to love you enough to leave with you. But he was a coward then he defiantly was one now.
And before you could stop yourself you moved forward, it all happened so fast as you grabbed the gun for the man behind you, he tried to stop you but you kicked him in the crouch casuing him to fall to the ground.
With the gun in your hands and adrenaline coursing through your veins, you tightened your grip on the firearm, your knuckles white with tension as moved towards Gally who didn't move from where he stood before. He held his head high, his eyes becoming glazed, but he clenched his jaw waiting for you to do what you wanted.
You could hear yelling from everyone behind you, but it was too late. Without a moment's hesitation, you swung the gun, hitting him hard across the temple with the back of the weapon. A sickening thud echoed through the air as the force of the blow sent him reeling backward. His eyes widened in shock, then dulled with pain as he crumpled to the floor.
It fell silent, except for your heavy breaths. You stood over him, chest heaving. The weight of what you had just done settled on your shoulders, but you pushed it away, the anger still seeping in your veins when he looked up at you, his nose bleeding.
You didn't know what was going on around you but whatever it was it died down when Gally raised his hand, telling them it was okay. His breathing came in and out harshly, his eyes connected with yours and the same softness still visible.
"You piece of shit," You breathed out, your voice dripping with hurt and rage. "You shouldn't have come back," Tears filled your vision as you remembered what he did, and how he made you feel. You had woken up screaming and crying because of him, and thinking you saw him die right in your arms. But he wasn't dead, and it was messing with your head, he was messing with your head.
"I'm so sorry Y/N," You let out a small cry at the sound of his voice, or the way your name rolled off his tongue. You didn't think you would ever hear him say your name again, and it caused your heart to physically hurt. Your breathing was getting faster and faster the more you let yourself feel the pain, you felt yourself give in slowly.
Tears slipped down your cheeks and you took a step away from him, dropping the gun on the ground in front of you. Gally didn't even waist a second, his eyes connecting with yours as he got up and off the ground, and making his way towards your form.
You gasped when he grabbed you and pulled you into his warm arms. And as he wrapped his arms around you, he could feel you trembling against him, your body shaking with the weight of all the emotions coursing through you. He held you close, his hug a shelter from the storm of doubt and fear.
Your arms wrapped tightly around his neck, fingers clutching at the fabric of his uniform as if afraid he might slip away once more. He could feel the dampness of your tears soaking into his shirt.
In that moment, nothing else mattered. Not the passing of time, nor the trials you had faced while you were apart. All that mattered in this moment was the warmth of your bodies pressed together, the rhythm of your hearts beating as one.
And as you held each other, lost in the sweet embrace of reunion, the world faded away around you, leaving only the echo of your love reverberating through the empty spaces between you. It was a moment frozen in time, a testament to the enduring power of your connection, and a promise of the future you would build together, one tender embrace at a time.
Shut Up and Take It {Part 1}
When Newt gets deeper into becoming a crank, he takes it out on you during sex.
Dominant Newt, vaginal sex, blow job, fingering, hair pulling, degrading, overstimulation
It was heartbreaking. The way Newt snapped at Thomas. He didn't want to do that. He never wanted to hurt people he didn't have to, much less his best friend.
With my head on his chest, I kept trailing my hands up his arms as I laid with him. Pressing occasional kisses to the side of his neck, I heard him sigh as I did it again. Wearing a bittersweet smile, I pulled myself a little closer to him.
âI want you,âHe breathed out, breaking our silence. Before I could take it in he got on top of me. Pushing his lips against mine, he shoved his tongue into my mouth. Kissing back, I grazed mine over his. With nothing but hunger, he shoved his tongue down my throat. As his spit collected in my mouth, he pulled out.
âI want to fuck you tonight. Not make love. Fuck you. Use you like my slut. Fill you up. Do whatever I want,âHe said in a husky, deep voice. His eyes were dark, cold as he awaited my answer.
Pulling his shirt off, I threw it on the floor. Forcing mine over my head, he quickly pulled my pants down, my panties following. Doing the same, he carelessly aligned himself with my entrance. Covering my mouth, he shoved himself into me. Not bothering to let me adjust, he tangled his other hand in my hair, pulling it as hard as he could. Screaming at the pain, I threw my head back as tears sprung to my eyes.
âShut up, you whore. You wanted it so you're going to take it,âHe demanded in my ear. Thrusting into me faster, he grunted as he twitched inside of me. With my body shaking against my will, I felt the wetness drip down my thighs. Turning my head to the side, I groaned as he tightened his grip. Forcing my face into the pillow, he went rougher. Whimpering in pain and pleasure, I shut my eyes as my walls tightened around his dick. Twitching inside of me, he then pulled out and slammed himself into me so harshly I let out a shriek. Despite my sounds I found myself cumming with him.
Not stopping, he started thrusting into me again. Uncovering my mouth, he forced me to face him. Looking at his lustful face, I felt the knot in my core tighten. Making sure to keep my eyes on him, I arched my back as he fucked me like a stranger. Being shamefully into it, I threw my head back as he came inside of me.
Grabbing my waist, he forced me on top of him. Straddling him, I put my thighs on his side as I kept his dick inside of me. Sliding up and down, I got closer and closer. Letting out a sound at the pleasure, I increased my pace.
âIf you don't be quiet I'll make you,âHe whispered in my ear. Biting my lip as I bounced on top of him. With one more, I came.
Since he hadn't yet, he got me back under him. Dragging his nails down my back, I whimpered as he drew blood.
Pushing me off, he forced me off the bed. Shoving me on my knees, he grabbed a fistful of my hair, making me gasp at the harshness. Taking the opportunity, he slammed into my mouth. Hitting the back of my throat, he kept forcing my head towards him. Whimpering around him, tears streamed down my cheeks as I gagged on his dick.
âI warned you to be quiet,âHe taunted. Shutting my eyes as he twitched in my mouth, I whimpered around him as he pulled my entire body forward. Putting his hands behind my neck, he kept slamming himself into me, making me choke again. Grunting, he shot his warm seed down my throat before forcing my face away.
Catching my breath, I groaned at the pain in my jaw.
âYou're fine,âHe said firmly, pulling me up. Throwing me on the bed, he crawled on top of me. Before I could say anything he wrapped my legs around him and slammed inside of me. Biting my lip to be silent, I shut my eyes as he arched my back. Holding me down by my shoulders, he started biting down on my neck, leaving dark bruises with his teeth. With the pressure returning, I clenched around him as I breathed heavier. Doing the same, he shoved himself in and out until we came.
He didn't stop though. He just kept going, causing me to let out a little scream.
âIf you don't shut up and just take it like my tight, little, dirty whore so nobody can know you're being fucked, Iâll use that pretty throat until you can't even talk,âHe threatened. Nodding my head, I didn't dare point out his sounds. I just let him use me the way he said it would.
It felt good. Damnit, it felt good. I know he was being rough. I knew I was going to wake up with bruises. I know he didn't give a damn about my pleasure, but there was still so much of it. I couldn't help but love this. I hate the circumstance, but the rough sex, dominant Newt, was something I was already more than into.
As I made another sound he pulled out. Shoving me back on my knees, he tugged on my hair. Already ready for him, I opened my mouth. Taking my hair, he slammed into my throat. Gagging on him, I felt my spit dribble down my chin at his roughness.
âYou need to learn to listen for once in your damn life,âHe growled, pulling harder. When he twitched inside of me, he held me still. His dick filled my cheeks as he held me still. Tearing up, I looked up to see him throwing his head back before bobbing my face in and out again. Choking on him, as he hit the back of my throat again, he shot his seed down my throat. Swallowing, I made sure to be ready for whatever he did to me next.
Grabbing me, he slammed my back on the bed again. Plunging a finger into me, he covered my mouth with his hand before I could scream. Quickly pumping, he rubbed fast circles on my clit. Squirming under him, I threw my head back at the pleasure. Going faster and faster, he watched as my body arched against my will. Tightening his grip over my mouth as I got louder, he kept his eyes on me as I clenched around him. Thrusting another finger into me, he stared at my face as he made me cum.
Crawling on top of me, he pushed into me again. Biting my lip so hard I drew blood, I stared into his dark and lustful eyes as he kept going. Penetrating me so hard I swear he rearranged my guts, I felt something I had never felt before.
âNewt. I-I can't move,âI whimpered as my body locked up.
âGood. Now shut up, and take it,âHe demanded, thrusting into me. Staying silent, I did as he told me to. Holding me down, he sped up. Helplessly stuck beneath him, I felt him arch my back. Shutting my eyes, I started breathing heavier.
As my mind was numbed out from pain and pleasure he leaned his chest against mine. Without warning, he grazed his teeth on the bud of my nipple, almost but not quite biting down. Gasping at the feeling, I stared at the ceiling as he pinned my arms above my head with one hand. As if I was just a toy, he kept his quick desperate thrusts. Feeling myself tighten around him, I tried to figure out what was happening. Switching to my other nipple, he didn't let me as he made me cum. Filling me up, he grunted around my skin as he pulled out, his hot liquids spilling from between my thighs.
âNe-Newt. I-I still can't-canât move,âI stuttered as he pulled out. Ignoring me, he simply got dressed. Not even able to turn my head, I stared at the ceiling as the wetness kept dripping down my legs.
Hearing him walk over, before I could register it, he quickly pulled my panties up, making me wince. Tuning me out, he did the same to my night shorts before slipping a shirt over my head.
âMake sure to be up on time tomorrow. And make sure you can walk. I don't want anyone to be able to tell that I fucked you senseless,âHe demanded, slowly pulling a thin blanket over my body since I was still sweating.
âYes Newt,âI whimpered.
âGood,âHe whispered, pushing my hair back and kissing my temple. With his palm still on my cheek, he smiled as he looked down at me. âSweet dreams, Y/N. I love you,âHe smiled, pressing a soft kiss to my lips and taking my breath away. For just a moment, he was my normal, gentle Newt again.
Then, he pulled away and left my room like it was nothing.
âI love you too, Newt. And I always will,âI promised.
A Bittersweet Reunion
Pairing:Gally x female reader
Summary:Despite the way reuniting with Gally should be only happy, you both end up going through every kind of emotion.
You didn't know you had missed the official reunion of your dead boyfriend. To be fair, being stabbed by some random person because you got a little too close to someone in a crowd probably does require some medical attention. Still, you had gone more than half a year grieving over him and swore you were every other second. You were just one stage away from acceptance that he was actually dead.
Apparently, you never even had to. While that would admittedly be quite an annoyance when you found out, it would be a happy one.
Gally had been pretty anxious about seeing you all day. While he still listened with full attention to the more than dangerous reason everyone had traveled all the way to the very last city (Denver), the back of his mind was filled with you. Were you okay? Were you safe? Had anything extreme happened to you while he was gone? Did you hate him with every part of you? Did you move on?
So many questions and no answers. Not until he was able to get back to the Right Arm base and see you. Would you punch him in the face the way Thomas had? Would you want to see him? Who knows? Certainly not him.
You were waiting on a bench, your arm wrapped in fresh bandages. While it was now a numb hurt, it was definitely painful. Any idiot would know be able to tell.
It was getting late. You didn't know exactly what time it was since there weren't any clocks or windows near you, but you were certain of that. Nobody had given you any information about anything. You weren't informed of why or where your friends had vanished off the face of the earth. Nobody was aware that you're Gally's lover so they didn't bother to tell you about that. As far as they knew, you were less than a stranger on the street to him.
He wasn't sure if Thomas had only said you were here to hurt him more. He wasn't sure if Thomas had lied to make sure he would have hope torn away from him. He wasn't sure if Newt had confirmed it because he wanted to cover for him. He wasn't sure if Fry had said it too out of frustration at all his actions the last time they had seen each other.
Apparently, you're right behind the door standing in front him. That's what everyone told him before they left to eat.
He couldn't eat. If he did, he was sure he would vomit. His stomach was twisted in knots, threatening to suffocate his organs.
Taking a deep breath, he told himself to be strong and get it over with before he opened the door.
You looked up from the floor you had fixated on for almost an hour. When you found yourself staring at your love that you thought you lost forever, you froze.
He didn't know what to do. He didn't know what your reaction meant. He didn't know if you were shocked, afraid, angry, or any type of emotion.
You hadn't found your voice, but you were able to stand.
He was still your Gally though. He had to be. If he moved on while you were staying loyal to someone you thought was dead, that would be a new kind of betrayal.
He had grown almost an inch taller, making the height difference just a little more obvious. His brown hair was now completely buzzed. His coffee eyes held this certain softness that you had never seen from him before.
He was still here.
All he could do was look at you. Your hair had grown a little since he last saw you but was still the same Y/H/C color. Your Y/E/C eyes still held this gentleness that he didn't think he could ever have. Everything about you just seemed better despite almost nothing having changed. Better than he ever had been. Better than he could ever be.
In his mind at least. In yours, your other half was right in front of you.
âGally?âYou whispered, eventually remembering how to speak.
âIâm sorry,âHe whispered back, not knowing what exactly he was apologizing for. Killing Chuck? Waiting so long to go with you? You living your life believing he was dead? Every one of those and more?
Slowly walking over, you stared at him for a moment. Just as he was staring back you threw your arms around him, the tears pouring from your eyes no matter how much you squeezed them shut. Silently sobbing into his chest, you hugged him as tightly as you could, afraid that if you let go this would be another dream.
He was never a crier. He hated it. Nobody had ever seen him cry. Not even you.
He didn't care about that right now. The love of his life was sobbing at the realization that he was alive despite the way he had stayed up for nights thinking that you hate him now. The love of his life was breaking down with emotion.
Holding you back, he rested his chin on your head as the tears dripped down his cheeks. Shutting his eyes, he repeated apologies. Each one made you cry harder as you realized he thought he had something to be guilty for.
âI missed you,âYou mumbled into his shirt, firmly gripping it in your hands.
âI missed you too. I missed you everyday,âHe promised, his voice cracking. As he tried to pull away you shook your head and pulled him as close as possible. You didn't want him to disappear yet. Something like that had to be some sick dream. There was no way this was real. âIâm here. Iâm right here,âHe soothed, rubbing your back.
Knowing that the longer you stayed the more it would hurt when you awoke you quickly pulled away, wiping your eyes. With your face buried in your hands, you waited for your heart to ache again in a way that put you two steps back.
Instead, you felt his hands in yours. Slowly pulling your hands away, you kept them in your sides as he cupped your face.
Suddenly, a group of people ambushed you. While some of them tore Thomas away from Chuck others were grabbing you, forcing you from your lover's body. Shouting for them to leave you with him, you tried to hold on, reaching for him.
This was real.
âGally.â
âY/N.â
A small smile creeped onto your face despite the tears falling from your eyes. Wiping them with his thumbs, he smiled back as his own spilled.
Pressing his lips to your temple, he kissed your forehead. Feeling your heart flutter in your chest, you gazed at him with nothing less than love. Looking at you the same way, he thanked every higher power there may be that you had found your way to him.
⥠- - - âĄ
It was wrong. Maybe. Maybe it was disgusting that as everyone else cried over Chuck as he slowly died you had run over to Gally. Clutching his shirt on your hands, you let out silent yet pained screams. Bowing your head, as you found your voice you demanded that he wake up. You had already had to run through the Maze thinking you would never see him again. It wasn't fair that he would leave just as you had him. It wasn't fair.
âWake up!âYou demanded, shaking him.
He wanted to. He wanted to say that he was just barely holding on. He wanted to say that this on top of the sting meant he was paralyzed.
He couldn't though. He just had to watch you sob as you believed it was over.
He couldn't. He didn't think his mouth would even allow him to say those words. He didnât want to hurt you all over again.
There were more of them, and they were stronger than you. That meant that no matter how much adrenaline you had and how much of a fight you put up they were able to drag you out the door.
As he watched you leave a single tear dripped down his cheek.
Sitting straight up, you gasped for air as sweat ran down your entire body. Putting your hand over your chest, you tried to take deep breaths.
You had had that dream more times than you could remember. It had haunted you, had made you afraid to sleep for months. You avoided it until you were sick and passing out standing up.
You thought reuniting with him would surely fix that. It only made sense for you to feel okay again.
You don't. Not in the slightest.
Gally had heard you wake up. It was impossible not to since you had both fallen asleep on the floor right outside the medical room, you being held in his arms.
Leaning against the wall, you put your knees to your chest as you kept telling yourself that heâs right beside you.
It had been so long though that nothing seemed real. Absolutely nothing.
âIt's okay,âHe coaxed, sitting in front of you. Slowly pulling your hands away from your face, he pressed his palms to your cheeks as he looked at you. âIt's okay,âHe repeated, not knowing and not needing to know what was going on. All that mattered was that something made you cry.
âPlease don't leave again?âYou begged through shaky breaths.
He didn't know how to tell you that he had to stay here. Maybe. How could he possibly explain that he pledged his allegiance to Right Arm? How could he ever tell you that now that you're here he didn't know what was right? That he didn't know how he could explain it? That he didn't know if there was any getting out of this? That maybe your only chance of being together forever was you staying here instead of going back with your friends?
All he wanted was to savor this time with you. No matter how short or how long it was, he just wanted to take in every moment, to burn every second into his head.
âThomas-â
He was worried that if he spoke he would spill everything he couldn't yet. That he would admit all the things he didn't want to.
Making sure no words could escape, he firmly pushed his lips against yours. Shutting your eyes, you wrapped your arms around his neck, letting yourself get lost in the kiss. Depending it, he let his hands travel down your waist and to your outer thighs, keeping you close to him. Not wanting to pull away anyway, you separated to breathe for only a second before crashing your lips back against his.
As you were falling into the other's touch, the door opened, making you both pull apart. Standing there and staring at you with wide eyes, was a dumbfounded Thomas.
âHow could you?âHe sputtered out.
âHeâs a killer. You can make all the excuses you want-â
âHe killed Chuck. How could you sit there and kiss a murderer? How?â
âIt wasn't his fault,âYou said firmly, standing up to be on his level.
âBut he still did. He killed him. He pulled the trigger.â
âIt's not an excuse. It's the reason. He would never, ever hurt Chuck. Ever.â
âYeah. He was aiming for you.â
âExcuse me?!â
âHow does that fix it?âHe snapped, his glare turning sharper.
âIf I was stung and remembered how much you hurt us, I would probably try to kill you too.â
You couldn't avoid it forever though. You both knew that.
âThis was your fault, Thomas! You set it up! You made the Maze! You trapped your friends in there! You can pretend you didn't, but it doesn't change it! You! Are! Guilty!â
âI fixed it!â
âNo you didn't! Minho is missing! People are dead! You didn't fix shit!â
âI never killed anyone!âHe denied, ignoring the pang of hurt it put in his chest. The guilt of all the people he lost would still strike him out of nowhere. The fact that one of his friends would think the same only made it worse, though he covered it up with anger.
You didn't believe that, but you couldn't let him insult Gally. If that meant reminding him of the indirect blood on his own hands, so be it.
âChuck jumped in front of you so you wouldn't die. You didn't move fast enough, and now he's dead. You didn't push him away, and now he's dead. You were a Runner, and you still weren't fast enough. Heâs gone. Heâs never coming back. He cared about you so much that he gave his life. If you didn't exist, he would still be here.â
With a scowl and tears pricking his eyes, he left, slamming the door so hard it shook the hinges.
With a frustrated groan, you slid down the wall behind you, running your hands through your hair. Sitting beside you, Gally let the silence fill the room as he ran out of things to say. He just placed his hand on your knee, promising that he was still here.
For now.
⥠- - - âĄ
Thomas was still furious at you. He felt betrayed. He felt as though you genuinely hated him.
Gally was just supposed to be showing them Teresa. He was only supposed to be explaining the plan.
As Thomasâs coldness chilled the air though, it was obvious he would have to say something.
âI know that you don't like me. I know you hate me. I know you think I hurt you, that I hurt Chuck, out of anger,âHe tried, leaning against the railing. Looking at him with a blank expression, Thomas let him speak. âThe thing is you don't have to like me. You don't have to want anything to do with me. You donât have to be my friend. I don't expect that from you,âHe sighed.
Thomas was positive that was true. That he would never like him.
âIf you care about Minho, if you want to rescue him, you do have to trust me though. If you don't, this won't work. It will only lead to arguing and no communication. It will ruin the entire thing.â
Pursing his lips, Thomas felt his stomach drop as he realized the truth to his words.
âSo until this is over, can we be civil? Can you trust me? When it's done, you won't ever have to see me again. Until that happens though, can you do that?â
Sighing, Thomas leaned against the railing further away, nodding as he knew it was true.
âOkay. Until this is over,âHe accepted.
âWhat do you mean we won't ever see you again? Aren't you going back to be with Y/N?âNewt asked slowly, picking up on the words.
With guilt flooding his chest, Gally bowed his head, looking at the concrete ground miles below him.
âGally, she's been a wreck for months. This morning is the most fine she's looked since you were gone. You can't do this to her again.â
âI . . . I don't know what Iâm going to do,âHe confessed.
âY/N needs you. You don't understand how hard it's been on her. You can't abandon her again,âNewt kept pushing.
âIt's not that simple.â
âHow is not that simple?â
âI have a job here.â
âYou told her you would always be loyal to her. She had plenty of options to pick from. She had people she could have been with. She could have been with so many others, but she still chose you. She thought you were dead, and you still came first.â
At his words, Thomas felt remorse for the fight last night. He realized he had let his emotions overtake him. You loved Chuck too, but Gally had been your world. You couldn't just move on. It didn't work like that. No matter what he did, you two loved each other in a way most people would never understand.
If he could still love Teresa, why couldn't you love Gally? She had done it on purpose yet his heart still yearns for her. Why would it be fair to not let yours yearn for him?
âI know. I just don't know what Iâm going to do yet. For now, just don't tell her? I need to figure out what comes next, and then I will. So please just don't say anything?âHe pleaded.
Newt knew all about secrets. He was great at keeping those.
âYeah. Okay.â
⥠- - - âĄ
You and Thomas hadn't really spoken. Neither of you had the courage to talk about what had went down. Not yet.
âIâm sorry. For getting mad at you about being with Gally. And for calling him a murderer. I don't . . . Iâm not really over it, but I know he means a lot to you. He makes you happy. You're my friend so I love you, and I want you to be happy.â
He was nervous and admittedly still a little hurt. At the same time, he knew he had hurt you too. He had essentially accused you of betrayal as if he didn't love someone on the other side.
Needless to say, you weren't the most excited when he had pulled you aside to speak to you.
Of all the things to leave his mouth, you didn't expect that.
âI know you didn't kill anyone. It's not your fault. It never was, and I shouldn't have thrown that in your face. I wasn't angry, but I was hurt. At the end of the day though, you are my friend too. You paid your debt so long ago, and you don't need to anymore. You shouldn't be reminded of it. Nobody's deaths were your fault, and I'm sorry.â
He thought about the promise last night. How Gally made them say they wouldn't tell you he didn't know why to do yet.
It was going to suck when he did, and it already sucked to keep the secret.
âSo we're okay again?âHe clarified.
You had all slowly left when Thomas followed him, trying to process it. None of you were stupid. No matter how in denial you were, you knew the truth deep down.
âYeah. We are.â
Hopefully, you still will be when this is over. Or hopefully you never find out that he knows.
⥠- - - âĄ
You had all watched Newt push Thomas against a wall. You had all watched him scream in his face. You had all watched the regret in his eyes when he pulled away. You had all watched him leave holding his arm.
You stared at the wall, your face blank as everything became too real. Gally was beside you, his hand on your knee as he took it in himself.
⥠- - - âĄ
âThis sucks,âYou whispered, breaking the tense silence.
âYeah. It does,âHe nodded, not knowing what else to say. Then again, did anything need to be said? No words could change Newt becoming a Crank, and it did in fact suck.
âWe fixed Brenda. Somehow. We can fix him,âYou mumbled half to yourself and half to him.
âWhat do you mean?â
âBrenda got bit but a Crank a few months ago. Mary gave her some kind of shot, and it cured her,âYou explained.
âSo we need to get him to Mary.â
âJanson shot and killed her,âYou said simply. There was no other way to put it. That was what happened.
âOh.â
âYeah.â
Going back to silence, you placed your hand on top of his. Both of you were still staring straight ahead, trying to decide what comes next.
âIf you can't even decide-â
âWhy would you keep this from me?!â
He should have known better than to think you wouldn't find out. He should have realized that somehow, someway, someone in Right Arm would spill everything. They didn't even mean to. They weren't aware that you weren't supposed to know yet here you are.
âI didn't know how to tell you,âHe repeated, saying the same thing yet again. With that only frustrating you more, you tried to shove past only for him to grab your hand, desperately pulling you towards him.
âI don't want to talk to you!â
âIâm sorry. I just wanted to be with you.â
âWhy the hell would I want to be with you when you were just going to leave again?!â
âIâm not leaving. I don't know what Iâm doing yet.â
âWell, do it without me!â
âI don't want to do anything without you!âHe yelled back.
âYou clearly do! You can pick Right Arm! I wonât be a second choice! I will never let myself be that!â
âYou're not a second choice!â
âI understand if you don't want to be with me anymore. I really-â
âI love you!â
Both of you froze at his words. For as long as he could remember, he has never told anyone that, even you.
This was a hell of a way to say it.
âWhat?âYou whispered, your anger slowly fading into disbelief.
âI love you. I have loved you for almost as long as I can remember. I feel more for you than I ever have for anyone. You, it's always been you. For so long, it's been you. For so long, you have been my everything. I thought this would be hard. I thought I wouldn't know what to do. I thought I would be too focused on taking down WCKD to actually know, but it's so obvious now. You are the right decision. You are what matters to me. Not revenge, not forgiveness, not proving myself, not a cure. As long as you love me, as long as you still want to be with me, my life is complete. I know that now. I know what the only right choice is.â
Gawking at him, you tried to figure out where this soft-spoken boy came from.
âI love you too,âYou promised through heavy breaths as you pulled away.
Cutting him off, you slipped your hand out of his to hold his face before smashing your lips against his. Freezing for a moment, he tried to comprehend that you still wanted to be with him. When it did sink in, he wrapped his arms around your waist, gently kissing you back. Pushing him against the wall behind him, you frantically deepen it, desperation practically radiating off of both of you. For as long as you were capable of, you put off oxygen, deciding that this was much more important. Not the kissing. Being so close to each other that you were practically one.
You kissed until you inevitably ran out of air.
Kidnapping Teresa and getting inside of WCKD had gone off without a hitch. To be honest, there wasn't a real reason for it not to. Everyone had gone over the plan more than enough times, and she had reacted exactly the way Thomas said she would.
âI love you. I love you, and I always will,âHe repeated, the words easily rolling off his tongue as though he said them everyday.
This is good. Right now is okay.
How the people he works with will take it is a different story.
⥠- - - âĄ
âNo,âLance said simply.
âNo? What do you mean no?â
âI mean no. You can't quit to be with some girl.â
âThis isn't some girl. This is my girl,âHe said firmly, putting both his hands on the table as he looked him in the eye. Literally.
âYou made a deal. Your loyalties are here now.â
âI was loyal to her first. I can't not be.â
âYou can, and you will be,âHe argued.
âNo. This is my Y/N. This is my girl, and she comes first. Nothing you do will stop me. Nothing,âHe spat, turning around to walk out.
âIf you leave, weâll take her instead.â
Stopping in his tracks, Gally slowly turned around. Lance simply nodded, his hands behind his back.
âWhat?â
âWeâll take her and not to take your spot. If you leave, weâll kill your girl.â
âThat's not fair. You can't do that.â
âLife isn't fair.â
âNo. You don't get to touch her,âHe scowled, storming up to him. With the coldest eyes a person has ever had, he glared at him.
âBut we will. You know very well we can get to anyone we want.â
âYou're a monster.â
âOf course I am.â
âNo. You can still think. You're an actual monster. You're heartless.â
âYes. I am.â
âI won't let you take her.â
âI will.â
âNo. Nobody will put a hand on her. You understand? Not while Iâm around.â
âThen, I guess weâll make sure you aren't around.â
Going completely speechless, his heart dropped to his stomach.
âYou can make a choice. You either break it off with her tonight or weâll take her tomorrow. Your choice.â
With that, he went back to tending to his roses as though he hadn't just ruined Gally's only chance of happiness.
⥠- - - âĄ
âI don't actually love you.â
The words were simple yet somehow the cruel ones your ears had ever heard.
âWhat?â
âI lied. I don't love you. I barely even liked you,âHe deadpanned, keeping his face expressionless as he looked into your eyes.
âWhat the hell are you talking about? Weâve been together for years. Now all of a sudden it meant nothing?â
âIt never meant anything.â
Looking at him, at his calm demeanor, at his emotionless face, at the empty shell of a person, you swore this was a stranger.
âHow? How could you be with me since the Glade, wait for me, kiss me like Iâm everything, call me your first choice, and tell me you love me, only to not mean it?âYou asked in disbelief.
âI was hoping you would have given it up, but you're taking too long. I never felt anything for you.â
It was the most despicable excuse he could think of. It was the coldest, most humiliating reason he could come up with.
That's what he wanted. If he made himself look like the worst person to exist, you wouldn't miss him. You wouldn't want anything to do with him. You would hate him instead of being hurt by him. You wouldn't blame yourself.
The more it stung now, the sooner you could heal. You could move on and find someone better, someone that isn't him. You could be happy.
All he wanted was for you to be safe and happy, even if that means losing you.
âAre you fucking kidding with me? We had four damn years together just because you wanted me to give it up? Are you fucking serious, Gally?â
âWhy wouldn't I be?â
With nothing less than hatred burning in your eyes, you shoved past him. As you were in the doorway though, you said something that may as well kneed him in the gut.
âI wish you actually died.â
With that, you turned out, wiping the tears streaming down your cheeks.
With a devastated sigh, he shut the door before leaning against it. Putting his head in his hands, he felt the regrets of everything he had ever done in life hit him all at once.
⥠- - - âĄ
Taking slow steps forward, the others dropped to their knees as well, the shock of it all hitting them like a gunshot. Gripping the cure, you held it to your chest, to your heart, the once light object now being the heaviest thing you had ever held. It was his one shot at life, now nothing but a worthless liquid.
You hadn't spoken a direct word to him. You hadn't even spoken about him. You just pretended he was some random stranger on a mission with you and silently cried yourself to sleep only to repeat the cycle the next day.
He wanted to say something when he heard you covering your mouth as salty tears flowed down your face. He wanted to tell you that he had only hurt you so you wouldn't be killed. He wanted to come clean. He wanted to be with you after months of separation.
He knew he can't though. Not yet. Not until he can fully get out of the city.
The plan was organized before the break up, and you didn't want anyone to know what you currently believed was the truth. That meant you had accepted your original position of being amongst the WCKD guards for longer than the others the way Gally was.
You debated shooting him with the weapon in your hand. Watching him go down and struggle seemed worth it right now. It seemed deserved. Even if you missed him, youâd get to shoot an actual WCKD guard, though youâd admittedly prefer for your shot to be right on point. You had never hated anyone with this kind of fiery passion until now.
In the end, you held back. When this was over, you would never have to see him again. You could go back to pretending he was dead.
You both watched as Thomas, Newt, and Minho jumped through a window. Under your mask, you grinned at the way he had been rescued. It has taken almost forever, but it happened. He was basically officially out of WCKD. As soon as you all left the city, that would be it. Everything could go back to normal.
You looked as they landed in the swimming pool under them. With that same wide smile, you came out of your position with the other WCKD workers and Gally. Making sure your gun was drawn and out, you allowed one of them to talk so you wouldn't blow your cover. As they were in the middle of demanding your three friends to surrender, you turned and shot him. At the same time, Gally took down others, being sure to avoid you. He had already caused you enough pain. Your heart would physically ache, and you had still barely been able to stomach anything. The last thing you needed, that you deserved, was more hurt.
When they were all unconscious you and Gally jumped down the small steps. When he pulled his mask off, he simply nodded and made a remark about them being nuts. You on the other hand ran straight up to Minho.
You didn't throw your arms around him. The last thing you wanted was to hurt him. Instead, you carefully hugged him, keeping your grip loose. Tightly hugging you back anyway, he stared at Gally with wide eyes as he did. This was definitely something he didn't expect.
Keeping his face neutral, he pushed down the lump in his throat at how close you two seemed again. He had already been worried about your relationship before, but now that he had to break your heart there was no guarantee that you two wouldn't be more. Even after he explained, you taking him back felt like a dream that he would spend the rest of his life chasing.
Shaking his head, he started walking away. Everyone else followed, prepared for the next step of the plan. Even if Minho didn't know what that was, he knew it was better than getting caught again.
⥠- - - âĄ
You were all so close. You had run straight through bombs and gunfire for Newt. You had kept the cure in your hand, ready to save his life.
You didn't.
As you sprinted up, your heart shattered yet again in a brand new way as you looked at one of your best friends, dead on the floor, a knife penetrating his chest. Your body locked up as you met Thomasâs eyes that were full of something you couldn't decipher. There was some kind of guilt and maybe even blame. They were numbed over, done with everything.
Tears streamed down your face as he got up and walked away. Still focused on your best friend, you didn't even notice that the others had arrived beside you.
You couldn't meet their gaze. Not when you had the cure that would never be used, the cure that could have saved him, the cure that you hadn't gotten to him quick enough in your hand. Not even able to walk, you fell to your knees in that spot, the needle still tightly clutched between your fingers.
The Safe Haven didn't feel the way you had imagined, the way you thought it should. You didn't feel thankful to be there. You didn't feel happy. You just felt tired, drained, like a shell of a person.
You all stayed in that position, mourning not only Newt, but everybody that you had all lost. Ben, Alby, Chuck, Jack, Winston, and all your friends you hadn't had the time or energy to while in the Glade. It wasn't until Jorge had come with his Berg that you had been forced to get up.
You couldn't. You still felt trapped, as if you were watching from someone else's eyes. Knowing that you had to go, Gally laid a hand on your shoulder. Looking up at him with tears in your eyes, you shook your head and silently begged to stay here and die in the city. Shaking his head back, he reminded you that even now it wasn't over. In far too much distress to argue, you shakily got up. When your legs almost gave out, he caught you. Letting you lean against him, he led you to the Berg with everyone else and now Vince as well. When he got here, none of you knew, but none of you cared either. It would never change anything.
It would never bring Newt or anybody else back.
It would never get rid of your guilt.
⥠- - - âĄ
You didn't cry. You couldn't find it in yourself to. You just sat by the shore, writing all their names in the sand over and over until you couldn't even feel your fingers.
You didn't celebrate being alive and well at the bonfire. How could you when you didn't even feel alive? How could you when so many people weren't? How could you when almost everyone you knew would never make it here?
You thought back to the moment he had broken your heart, and something clicked in your head. You hadn't noticed it at the time, too drunk on fury, but his voice has cracked. He was close to tears, and he had dark bags under his eyes.
You thought about everything. Not just the people that were gone but the people that were here. Thomas who you had made up with. Frypan who you had never fought with. Minho who you had helped rescue.
Gally.
âY/N, Iâm sorry. I know what I said was messed up. I know that I hurt you, but I didn't want to. I never would. I-â
His words had been lies. You were sure of it now.
Gally hadn't gone to the celebration either. He was too busy looking for you. Somehow, he had to fix it. Now that Lance was dead and you weren't in danger, he had to make it right. He had to explain it so at the very least you would understand that you were and had always been his world.
It took him an hour to find you, in which he had rehearsed what he wanted to say. He had to get the words exactly right. He couldn't afford to mess it up any more than he already has. He couldn't afford to destroy your feelings and heart all over again.
Time seemed to freeze as he saw you by the ocean, your back turned to everyone.
Taking deep breaths, he took slow steps towards you, each one having a new kind of purpose. He made sure his shoes crunched on the sand so you wouldn't be caught off guard.
You heard, but you didn't turn around. You didn't need to. You already knew who it was, you knew why he was here, and you knew that he would sit by you. You knew that even though you were in shambles, you two had time to be fixed. After losing everybody, how could you bear to lose someone alive? How could you make yourself grieve for someone who was breathing? How could you ignore one of the only people in your life who was actually in it?
He took a spot beside you. Staring out into the abyss, you allowed the silence to fill between you two as he stared at you, pleading for you to look at him. While you wanted to, you couldn't find it in yourself to actually move. You just sat there, gathering your own jumbled thoughts.
It was enough though. You were both just barely okay to know that you would be strong enough to survive the rest of your lives here, side by side.
âI don't want to know what happened. I donât want to know why. I just know that you didn't mean your words, and I just want you back,âYou whispered.
Taking another breath, he nodded in understanding despite the way you weren't looking at him. While that wasn't what he expected, it was something good. It was one of the only good things actually. Even though he had a feeling you would want to know later, that was all he needed to hear to be quiet now.
When he faced the open sea the way you were, you took his hand, gripping it the way you had the cure. Tightly holding your hand as well, he ran his thumb over your knuckles as you both sat there, trying to figure out what the journey would be from here.
You both didn't know. None of you ever had, and it was likely none of you ever would.
Right now was bittersweet though. It wasn't happy. It wasn't alright.
they could never make you hate him, even after what happened to chuck.
as much as you wanted to, you just couldnât do it. he had been your best friend, your crush, your rock, your lover.Â
it was so good at first, maybe too good to be true, whatever it was it felt right with him. gally was the only thing in the glade keeping you sane, whole.
with thomas grabbing you by your waist, pulling you away from his body. gally giving you a last âitâs okay,â before you were snatched away from him.Â
tears streaming down your cheeks as you reached out for him, squirming in thomasâs hold trying to free yourself, as you were both tugged through the exit by others in full combat gear.
you were finally out of the maze, but at what cost?
after his death, you were distant from the others except from newt. he always made sure you were eating and drinking, checking up on you when distanced yourself from everyone.
newt was like a brother to you, having him close helped, but then again what could he do for what only felt like heartache.Â
your eyes swollen and puffy as tears rolled down your cheeks, trying to keep your sniffles muffled by the sleeve of your jacket as the others slept.
time heals. well thatâs what people used to say, but you think thatâs complete utter bullshit because how does this ever get better?
everytime you closed your eyes you could see him, his hand shakily holding the gun in thomasâs direction, his eyes full of tears, the infection spreading across his skin. then bang! jilting yourself out of bed, chest tightening, tears. it was the same cycle every time you slept.
feeling as it was almost selfish, you got to live, you got a chance to try to survive, but here you were here moping. losing winston only added to your heartache.
nearing the last city the sound of angered shouts echoed far, definitely too many for the eight of you to take on, so you got closer to figure out what to do next.Â
gently pushing through the crowd, trying to get to the front to see what was happening. a hand covered your mouth, muffling you crying out for help. the other around your waist as the person who grabbed you lifted you off the ground.
the others were still ahead of you, not noticing what was happening, until it was too late. out of nowhere mini missiles were getting shot at the ground beside you, making the person who had you fumble, almost letting you go.
another person in a gas mask watched this happen, they started to grab your legs and dragged you towards a truck, if you were gonna go, you were gonna go kicking and screaming all the way.
âget off of her!â newt yelled, dragging the man who had your feet off of you, but another two came up behind him and got him too.
both of you were soon thrown into a beaten down blue truck, leaving you sat side by side, breathing heavily. a certain are you alright? look shared between the two of you before staring down the three armed, masked people in front of you.
the car ride tense and rocky as the vehicle drifted around corners, making you bump shoulders with newt.Â
it soon came to an abrupt stop, the doors being pulled open and the two of you nudged out of it. looking around you, you could see an abandoned car park, thomas and brenda, multiple guys with masks.
the sounds of muffled fighting could be heard in the van beside you, then bursts out jumping on the person, jorge punching them.
shouting about where brenda was, but soon stopped when he found her.
âitâs alright, weâre on the same side,âÂ
thomas stepping closer, pushing you protectively behind him, âwho the hell are you?â
after a long pause the unknown leader takes off his mask, âgally?â you mutter in disbelief, peeking out from behind thomas.
his eyes soften at the sight of you, âhey sweetheart,â giving you that familiar smile that you had missed so much.Â
it doesnât take long for you to bound up to him, throwing your arms around his neck, bringing him into a bone crushing hug. he hugged you back even tighter, lifting you off of the ground with ease.
you moved back just enough to look at his face, a soft smile danced over your lips as tears filled your eyes once again, âwhat the fuck. how is this real?â
âiâll explain everything inside, câmon,â he placed you back on the ground, grasping your hand in his own as he signalled the others to follow him.
bonus:
you were now cuddled up in bed with gally. your head on his chest, legs intertwined, his arm wrapped protectively around your waist pulling you closer to him.
âi never thought weâd have this again,â speaking softly as you looked up at him, âi really thought i lost you.âÂ
he gazes down at you, brushing a piece of hair behind your ear, âwhether you like it or not, i'm not going to give up on youâŚon us.â
âthatâs what i like to hear,â you joke, playfully elbowing his side with your arm, earning a chuckle from him as you cuddled closer to each other.
for the first time in months youâd finally be able to sleep peacefully with him by your side again.
Newt x reader Bridgerton AU. Reader, the diamond of the season, is the Duchess of Hastings. She wants to marry someone who likes her as a person and isnât after her money. Newt, son of a widowed viscountess, needs to marry to save his familyâs reputation because his sister Sonya was seen alone with her fiancĂŠ Lord Aris before they were engaged. The anonymous writer Lady Whistledown is Ava, a widowed modiste who has her nose in everyoneâs business, and Aris is the only one who knows.
'foxes and hounds' - newt
masterlist
The start of a new social season, although intended, supposedly, to be a cause for joy, feels rather more like a fierce uprising of dread, not celebration. Across the ton, young maidens find themselves new entreesâ or, entrantsâ to the marriage mart. This game of rings and dances, men with ambition and women with more, will end in blissful happiness or deepest discontent. And all will be witnessed by every worthy family from one corner of the country to the next.
If all goes according to plan, an eligible would-be bride will find herself engaged to a man she loves, a man in possession of a handsome fortune and a sterling reputation. If luck slips past her, sheâll settle for someone decent, or someone without any income at all. If nothing goes in her favor, her first year in society will not be her last as a single woman. She will have to repeat her attempt the next year, this time without the glimmering aura of a new arrival, and hope that something within her has changed enough to attract a proposal. Otherwise, she will sink to the bottom of the pile of dance cards, ignored, abandoned, and grown up into a spinster. All that hard work gone to waste.
Youâve heard many young women discuss the marriage mart with nothing short of absolute terror in their voices. A good opening season can seal a girlâs fate forever. Attracting the eye of a worthy man is an impossible task for all but the best of the rosebuds, or so it seems. Most of us will settle for something halfway decentâ a tidy sum per annum but nothing extravagant, a man with casual disinterest but nothing harsh. Something that can be shaped into something good, or at least ignored in favor of not being alone. Such is the romance of a married life.
You, however, hope to extract a little more out of the whole affair. As the Duchess of Hastings, you have no need for money. A marriage would be nice, the final touch on the portrait of a successful lady, but you do not require the financial stability of a husband. You have plenty of money and plenty of friends. You will inherit your estate. If you look for a husband, you will look only for love.
One would think, then, that entering your first season among the eligible women of the ton would be bereft of the panic permeating through most of your friends in search of husbands. However, when you line up with the rest of the young women to be presented to the Queen at the start of the season, you find that it couldnât be less true.Â
Your stomach is in knots, even as you sweep confidently through the corridor to wait outside the door. The white feather in your hair stands tall and proud. Your dress is crisp and finely stitched, the highest of fashion yet never gaudy. You attract stares wherever you goâ from the other girls, envious and jealous and heartsick, from the men, longing and cutthroat and mercenaryâ but pretend they donât phase you in the slightest. As duchess, youâve had plenty of time to grow accustomed to onlookers. You wonât allow them to interfere with you on this all important day.
At last, your name is called, and you enter the throne room, your mother behind you. You keep your steps small but light, and seem to float towards your queen. When the time is right, you sink into an elegant curtsy. The moment seems to last forever, your knees bent, your hands shaking slightly, but when the queen calls you to stand, you look up to find her smiling benevolently at you.
âI believe I have found my diamond of the season,â she announces.
The room erupts in polite applause, and you do your best to smother a smile thatâs entirely too giddy to be proper. As you retreat from the room, you gaze at the faces surrounding you, trying to remember which ones look genuinely happy for you and which seem to be identifying a prize pig for the slaughter. When the town gossips all gather later to share their thoughts on todayâs proceedings, youâre certain that some of them will attempt to discredit you, saying that of course the queen would choose the duchess as her diamond, but you know just as well as all of them that you deserve the honor today. You were the best of everyone here, and itâs plain to see.
Among all of them, your gaze catches on a singular man, almost lost in the crowd from all the bodies packed together but no less entrancing. What strikes you the most is that his face seems kind, and his eyes sparkle with pride as they watch you go. Pride for you, for your accomplishments. As if he couldnât be more delighted that you of all people were named the seasonâs diamond.
Then youâre gone from the room, and the kind man is no longer before you. Still, you puzzle over the encounter long after your carriage takes you home. You donât believe you recognize him, but that doesnât mean anything to sway you towards any decision. An image of the young man swims in your mindâ short, dirty blond hair, an upturned mouth, dark eyes, his face almost spritely. Clever, for sure.
You know better than to mess with clever men. Clever men are the type to try and twist your mind, convince you that they only love you then attempt to make off with your money. You know full well what marriage to you will offer any would-be suitor. This season, you may be looking for affection, but every man in the room will be after your fortune. The task of finding someone who truly cares for you will be a difficult one indeed.
So, clever men or not, youâll have to keep your heart under close guard. When the first ball of the season comes to be, you don one of your finest dresses, and firmly admonish yourself to be careful. The game of hearts is not one that you lose. Either you win, or you destroy yourself.
You time your arrival carefully, so as to make the best entrance, and your efforts are rewarded. From the moment youâre announced, all eyes turn to you. Were it not for your extensive experience with being scrutinized in the grand magnifying lens that is the ton, youâd be nervous to have that many people looking at you. Even still, you canât pretend you donât feel a small flutter in your stomach.
It gets easier once you sweep further into the room, once people start smiling at you again, when the conversation picks up and youâre asked for your first dance of the evening, which you accept. Your partner is a charming man named Minhoâ dark hair, witty eyes, an excellent sense of humor. Heâs athletic and a decent dancer, and by the time the music stops, youâre back to your usual self again. You canât stop yourself from mentally sizing up your dance partner. He seems nice, and you wouldnât be bored around him, at least. His family owns land. Although heâs not of your precise social standing, few are, and heâs close enough to you that it would be a respectable match.
Stillâ still, you think to yourself, as you move away from the center of the floor once more to consider your dance card, itâs not quite enough. You want love, you want a spark, and you didnât quite get that with Minho. There are plenty of eligible suitors here, though, and many more balls to come. Youâll have other opportunities to select a match.
A few dances later, though, your feet are beginning to feel heavy and youâre still no closer to finding someone of interest than you were at the start. A good lady of extensive training such as yourself should have no problem dancing the entire night through with a pleasant smile on her face, but youâre still human, still tired, and your charming demeanor is beginning to pinch at the seams before long.
The music for the latest dance ends, and you curtsy to your partner, praying silently that no one else will be looking to fill your dance card for the next rotation. However, when you turn around, youâre greeted with the sight of many anxious faces. Something inside you wilts, perhaps your endurance.
Before the mobs can descend upon you, however, a figure appears in front of you. You sigh in relief to see one of your closest friends, Miss Teresa Agnes. âTeresa! And here I thought I wouldnât have a single good friend all evening.â
Teresa laughs, her dark hair shining. âI would never abandon you. Certainly not when our diamond is sparkling so spectacularly tonight.â
You smile at her. âIâm not the only one whoâs sparkling, Teresa. You look lovely.â
âThank you,â Teresa says sincerely. âNow, if you donât mind, Iâd like to introduce someone to you. This is Viscount Newt, a good friend of mine. I met him through Thomas.â
You smile to yourself as Teresa turns to beckon someone towards you. Teresa has been harboring a not-so-secret admiration for Thomas since you were all small. This is her first season in the social circles, too, and if she doesnât come out of it with a proposal from Thomas, youâll think the sky has fallen. Even now, heâs watching her fondly from across the room, trying to pretend as if he isnât pining madly while Minho teases him for it.
âHere he is at last,â Teresa says, and all of a sudden you canât think about Thomasâ case of lovesickness for a second longer, because Teresa has brought her friend before you, and you know him. Itâs the stranger from your presentation to the queen. The nice one, the clever one. The one that caught your eye, and then your imagination.
You curtsy automatically, and Newt bows. Once the two of you straighten up, youâre able to observe him more closely. Youâd only gotten a fleeting glimpse earlier, but now you can drink in the sight of him, and you do. His eyes are dark, but catch the lights like stars. His mouth has a habit of twitching up at the sides, as if heâs always thinking of a joke but just barely managing to keep it at bay. When he looks at you, he really looks at you. Youâve been stared at all night by would-be suitors, but their gazes never went farther than surface level. Right now, itâs as if Newt can see through to your very soul, and most intimately of all, appreciates it.
Teresa gives you a confused look, and you realize youâve been standing in silence for longer than is probably courteous. âItâs a pleasure to meet you,â you say.
âI must return the sentiment,â Newt returns. âTeresa has talked about you many times. Iâve been quite eager to meet you.â
âI hope Iâm worthy of what sheâs told you,â you say.
Newt smiles again. âI believe youâre even better than that,â he tells you.
Teresa is looking at you with an odd smile. âI believe Iâd better let the two of you get to know each other, then,â she says, and sweeps away before you can stop her.
Newt laughs. âSheâs been wanting to set us up for ages. For a friendship, I mean,â he breaks in hastily. âApparently, she thinks we have a similar sense of humor.â
âI look forward to finding that out myself,â you smile.
Newtâs eyes flash with mirth again, delighting you. Behind you, the music picks up again. Newt extends a hand towards you. âWould you mind if I shared a dance with you? Unless, of course, youâd rather sit for a while.â
âIâd love to dance,â you say quickly, and itâs true. All of a sudden, the pain in your feet is gone, as if it had never existed at all.
Newt smiles and takes your hand to lead you to the dance floor. The orchestra begins its melody, and you start your dance. You make a mental note to ask Teresa a little more about Newt later; he dances like an aristocrat, but he speaks so freely to you. Itâs nothing like youâve ever experienced in a suitor before.
Newt arches a brow as he steps through the dance. âSizing me up, are you? It may be improper of me to ask, but I do hope Iâm meeting your requirements.â
Your cheeks heat up. âIâm simply appreciating your mastery of this dance. Nothing more.â
Newt laughs easily. âOf course not. Itâs not as if everyone else here is doing the same thing right now. Every dance partner is a strategy meeting. In just a matter of minutes, youâll walk away knowing if I am a worthy wager, and I will do the same. This ball is full of hounds and foxes, my lady. We all know our parts.â
You glance at him, feeling a curious grin tugging at your lips. âAnd which am I? Fox or hound?â
Newt returns your proud gaze. âI suppose weâll find out at the end of the season, wonât we?â
You laugh, feeling oddly triumphant. Newt has this way about him that you find enchanting. Itâs almost breaching impropriety with how candid he is around you, but it only makes you trust him more. The dance ends far sooner than youâd like. Newt relinquishes you to the storm of suitors outside, hopefully with just as much reluctance as you.
The rest of the night passes in a blur. Newt is truly the only one that stands out to you. You donât have a chance to dance with him again, but you keep making eye contact as you dance with other partners. You can practically hear his clever words in your head, catching you in the act of evaluating the suitors in front of you. Fox or hound?
When the ball ends and you return to your carriage for the ride home, youâre blissful, practically dreamy. Youâve had enough time with Newt to dream about it until the next ball, where youâll likely repeat the same cycle over and over again until the season ends.
However, your golden mood is shattered when your chaperone sits down across from you. Her face, by contrast, is twisted with disappointment. âDo you have any idea what sort of trouble youâre getting yourself into?â She asks once the carriage pulls away.
Still caught up in the heady dream of a merry boy who smiled the brightest when he danced with you, you donât realize the trap descending around you until itâs too late. âWhat trouble?â
Your chaperoneâs lips purse. âYouâre meant to be dancing only with eligible gentlemen, my lady. I should hope that youâd be able to recognize the suitable candidates from the unseemly by now.â
The veil is pierced, and youâre beginning to be brought back to earth. âWhat are you talking about? I thought I made perfectly reasonable choices with my dance partners.â
Your chaperone shakes her head, a quick, sharp gesture. âAll but one. Goodness, havenât you heard about the trouble with that one family? I canât believe Miss Agnes had the nerve to introduce him to you, but perhaps the fact that sheâs so besotted with Lord Thomas is upsetting her mind.â
Your heart freezes in your chest. âYou canât mean to say that the Viscount is not a suitable bachelor? What else could he be?â
The other woman sighs. âYou donât know, do you? My lady, I would not interfere if I did not feel the need, but I can assure you, his motives with you are purely mercenary. That man is desperate for something to cover up the follies of his family, and you, my dear, are the perfect gilded shield.â
You feel cold. âWhat follies?â
âHis sister, Miss Sonya, was seen alone with her fiance,â your chaperone murmurs at last. âLord Aris. I would think you would have heard his name, although perhaps not connected it with Viscount Newt. Miss Sonya and Lord Aris were happily engaged, and by all accounts it was a fine union, but they were seen together without a chaperone past dark. Quite the scandal. The Viscount knows it and is eager to get the ton talking about anything but his sisterâs misdeeds. Entering into a courtship with you would do just the trick.â
Sheâs right, and you know it, and you hate it. âHe seemed so genuine,â you whisper, and instantly know how foolish it sounds.
Your chaperone, to her credit, is kind enough to take pity on you. âHe did,â she tells you, âand you looked happy together. You would be less happy, however, when you found out the truth. I would rather you know now and stay away. Men like that are nothing but trouble.â
You nod solemnly, turning your head to watch the dark landscapes rumbling past. The sun is already beginning to rise, a hallmark of a late night out. It had been a beautiful night up until this, and now the entire evening is ruined in your mind.
âI feel for Miss Sonya,â you whisper. âShe was already engaged. They were just talking.â
âShe knows the rules of society, and so do you,â your chaperone reminds you. âWe all have our roles to play.â
And the consequence of setting a foot outside your role is instant public mortification. Yes. What a forgiving world. You immediately plant your exhausted body in your bed when you return, hardly sparing the time to wash and dress, but the only things to bloom from your rest are troubled dreams of the boy that could have been yours. Now that you know the truthâ that Newt was only trying to use you for a better reputationâ every interaction with him is tainted.
Youâd meant what you said in the carriage, though. You did think Newt was genuine. Hadnât he laughed more than usual when he was with you? Hadnât he regarded you with that fierce pride of his, as if heâd finally found a mind that was an equal to his? Hadnât he watched you with something akin to jealousy when you danced with the other men that werenât him?
Hadnât you wished he would only dance with you? And donât you wish that you could truly do what you promised yourself and marry only for love, never mind the rest? It is a simple dream to think that love is easy. Marriage is not simple, not in the ton, not in your lifetime. Every one of your days will be shaped by the whims of society, even when they take Newt away from you.
When it comes time for the next ball, you do your best to strengthen your spirits before you go. You intentionally avoid him, making sure to always have your dance card full whenever the music ends. Itâs easy enough to find a crowd large enough to hide you from him, and yet you still catch glimpses of Newt from across the hall, several partners down, in a carriage many behind yours. You successfully go two balls, then three, without seeing him, but it aches like a knife in your ribs when you think about what could have been.
As it turns out, youâre not the only one wishing you were with him. At the fifth ball of the season, your attempts to distance yourself from the viscount are foiled at last. Newt tracks you down, signing his name on your dance card before you can stop him before leading you out to the dance floor.
âThatâs a rather abrupt way of asking a lady to dance, donât you think?â You ask as you curtsy.
Newt bows. âI felt it was the only way of guaranteeing that you would dance with me.â
âA lady never declines a gentleman in need of a dance,â you remind him.
The music picks up, and the two of you begin your paces. âA lady also never avoids a gentleman as thoroughly as you have at the last few balls,â Newt says. âWere it not for the fact that I know you to be as perfectly agreeable a duchess as there could ever be, I would say that it was personal.â
You canât look him in the eyes, even with his hands on you, guiding you through the steps. âItâs not meant to work out, my lord. Us, I mean. We cannot forget the rules.â
When Newt speaks again, his voice sounds hurt. âWhy not? Forgive me, my lady, but I remember what it was like that first night. You were happy. We were happy, and happy together. What changed?â
At last, you risk a glance towards him, and instantly regret it. Newtâs eyes are filled with genuine hurt. Are you wrong? Did he actually want you as more than a cover-up? âI heard about your sister,â you say as delicately as you can.
Still, Newt flinches as if youâve hit him. âYou donât know the full story,â Newt says raggedly.
âThen tell me,â you beg him. âI would choose you if I could, but everyone seems to think that you are only interested in me to advance your station. Give me a reason to believe in you, not them.â
âI canât say it here,â Newt whispers.Â
âI canât go somewhere with you alone,â you tell him quietly. âEspecially not after what happened to your sister. You must tell me now, or we will never have another chance.â
âAlright,â he says at last. âBut you mustnât breathe a word of it to anyone.â
Once you agree, Newt begins to speak in a hushed whisper hardly audible to you, let alone the other couples around you. âSonya is deeply in love with Lord Aris, and he is in love with her. So much so to the point that he has been battling a deep rage ever since that awful gossip rag, Lady Whistledown, slightly disparaged her last season. He took it upon himself to find out Lady Whistledownâs identity, and somehow, he did. The only problem is, Lady Whistledown is not someone Sonya would consider a friend. He wanted to warn her about the dangers of being anything less than perfect around that insidious writer, and he didnât want to waste a moment. He called on her to meet with him as soon as possible. He didnât think they would be seen, but they were, and of course Lady Whistledown ran with it to discredit them in case they would reveal her.â
You suck in a harsh breath. âIt was never anything wrong, then. He merely wanted to protect her.â
Newt nods. âLord Aris is a good man. He never would have done something like this if he realized how it would backfire. He regrets it daily, even though all he wanted to do was keep my sister safe. The ton knows their characters, too. Neither of them would do anything unseemly. The rumors diminish by the day, and soon, it will all be over. They will be happily married.â
He sighs and looks at you again. âI tell you this to explain myself, and to clear my name. I have nothing to hide from the situation with my sister and her future husband. In fact, it is only because they directly asked me not to spread this information that I havenât gone public with the identity of Lady Whistledown herself to spare their reputations. I have nothing to fear, my lady. Certainly nothing that would make me risk the happiness of my marriage on a good rumor. I would court you because I have never met anyone like you before, nor do I think I ever will. You are utterly entrancing in every possible way. If you do not wish to be with me in that fashion, I would understand.â
You shake your head quickly. âI do want that, my lord. I want you.â
A careful smile slips across Newtâs face. âDo you mean that?â
âI do,â you tell him. âI have wanted you since the moment I saw you at my presentation. I would have found you no matter what lies they spread.â
Newt grins. âI believe I have decided something important, my lady. About your inner nature.â
You arch a brow as he spins you. âAnd what is that?â
âYouâre a hound,â he informs you matter-of-factly. âSharp and bright. Brave, too. But, then again, I am a hound as well. We make quite the pair, I think.â
âI think so too,â you tell him. In the days to come, rumors will abound about the viscount and the duchess. At first, there will be surprise across the ton, but then, even the most tenacious of gossips will realize that this makes perfect sense. The most clever of men and the most ambitious of women, bound together in holy matrimony. Even the best of poets couldnât concoct a story that beautiful.
Minho was fairly reserved and didn't talk to many when he had the opportunity to. He'd lost friends, his memories, his life, coming to the Glade. He lost everything and for what, to run around a giant maze for the rest of his life? He was trapped in a cycle of sleep, eat, run, map, eat, and sleep, and he had been for years now. He felt worthless, and hated himself deep down. Thomas and Newt knew but didn't know how to help over his shrugging off of the situation. They decided if he needed to talk, he would if he wanted to or if he was ready.
But, upon your arrival, he found some sort of comfort in you. Your calm and friendly demeanor just had him spill himself one night at another Greenie bonfire. You listened to him talk for hours and gave him a whole motivational speech and reassured him he'd be alright.
And now, he could finally say that the viscous cycle of overworking and hating himself was over, and it had been since the first time you smiled at him.
You were the rain to his storm clouds.
Just like the rain, you cast the dust -his self hatred- into nothing. You washed the salt in his wounds from his hands.
You had your hooks in him, drawing him closer and closer each and everyday. He could see you in his dreams and in his fate, yet still deny the persistent questions from Newt and Thomas, and even Fry and Winston.
He went out of his way after spending hours in the map room just to talk to you and hear all about your day. Even the sound of your voice comforted him and sent a shiver, almost a tingling sensation, up his spine and into his brain.
He jogs to your side, wondering what you're up to at this hour at night. You snuck out in the middle of the night, wanting to feel the cold, wet rain against your skin for a bit. It wasn't pouring but it wasn't lightly sprinkling either, a fair amount of water soaking you.
His feet almost fall beneath him due to the mud under the grass, making him lightly gasp as he reaches out to you, now turning around as you heard him.
"Y/n!" He gasps, recalculating his footing to not fall.
You quickly reach your arm out for him and catch him at the forearm. You steadily help him back on his feet with a smile and chuckle while his face heats up from embarrassment.
"You good?" You ask, wiping away any stray rain around your eyes before it seeped in, not wanting to try and be bothered by it in the moment.
He nods, looking away for a moment. "What're you doing out here?"
You shrug, loosely hanging onto his wrist, not noticing, although he does. "Enjoying the rain"
"Why?"
"...It's nice, I guess. Makes me feel like there's hope outside the Glade"
He nods, seeing and feeling you drop his wrist. He slings an arm around your shoulder, a usual act of affection between you two.
You hear the rain pitter and patter against the Homestead as the force of the little raindrops increases. However, itâs soothing. You feel like you can stand here with Minho forever. He provided an odd comfort, even when silent, as just knowing heâs there beside you could rid you of any worries or fears.
"Are you not cold?" He asks, feeling goosebumps rise along his arms and legs.
You shake your head no with a shrug, "Why, are you?" You tease with a smile.
"No, no, no. Definitely not." He defensively speaks, playing into the joke as he retracts his arm from your shoulders and crosses them. His sassy personality was showing through even in the middle of the night. "I'm never cold, ever"
"I'd be really concerned if you were never cold, Minho. Maybe we should send a note down with the box asking about it" You speak, playing around with him. "Maybe we should stop hanging out. What if it's a contagious disease?"
"No, no, I mean, just get cold! Just like, not around you," He shrugs, taking back his last words.
"Oh?" You question, your lips curling into a smirk. "Around me?"
"I, uhm-"
"Hm?"
Before you can process what he's doing, Minho swiftly moves his hands to your jawline and smashes your lips together. You swear you hear a lightning strike as he does so, and rest your hands on his shoulders, not denying this new act of affection. You could get used to this.
You're the first to pull away, shocked and confused.
"Minho?"
He's silent, face burned up as he can't look at you.
"Min-"
"Don't talk about it"
You take a moment to think before patting him on the shoulder, turning back towards the Homestead.
"I'm going back to bed. Enjoy the rain"
He nods, crossing his arms again as he looks out towards the Deadheads again. He hears you slowly trudge off across the Glade, the squishing of the mud and wet grass below you drowning out as you walk further and further away.
"Damnit"
"Language!"
"How the hell did you just hear me?!"
As usual, you were waiting for Minho in front of the doors. The runner liked to spend his resting time with you. But you started to worry when he didnât show up yet. Anxiously, you bit your nails and Newt swatted your hand away âDonât do thatâ he was always stopping you from doing it.
You groaned, rolling your eyes âWhat is he doing?â you hated when Minho was late, it wasnât the first time but you hoped he was going to hurry, you couldnât lose him.
âWorrying for your boyfriend, huh?â Newt teased, elbowing you in the ribs gently. You shot him a glare, you werenât very receptive to humour when you were stressed.
âHeâs not my boyfriendâ you mumbled, crossing your arms in front of your chest.
Newt looked down at you with a smirk âBut you love himâ you hated the way he sang the end of the sentence.
You glanced at him, brushing your tongue over your top teeth âYou want to talk about issues that make me angry?â
Newt raised his hands up in the air âOkay, okayâ he chuckled. He stared down at you with a small smile âHeyâ he caught your attention âHeâs going to make itâ he tried to reassure you as much as you could, as your best friend he didnât want to see you like this.
Without even thinking you brought your nails to your lips. Eyebrows furrowed, you stared at the entrance of the maze âCâmon Minho. What are you doing?â
You finally saw him, in a poor state, running as fast as he could next to a Ben looking as pitiful as him âMinho!!â you shouted as you rushed to the doors, cheering him on as much as you could, encouraging him and Ben to run faster as the walls started to close. He had to make it out alive, you couldnât handle his death.
The runners finally made it to the Glade, immediately falling to the ground, exhausted. You joined Minho, cupping his head between your hands âAre you okay?â Behind you the maze closed, the big doors touching each other in a great din.
Minho looked up at you with his iconic smirk âYouâre with me, of course I amâ unfortunately, you werenât in the mood for his flirting, you still had the impact of all this stress and fear from a few seconds ago.
âStop it, Minho!â you let out the tears you were holding for the past few minutes, slapping his shoulder, forgetting for a second he was probably covered in bruises and cuts.
Minho didnât expect you to be this worried, and he hated that he felt a little guilty about being the reason for your cries. âHeyâŚâ he said, sitting up âI promise you Iâm fineâ he smiled at you, hoping you knew he was honest.
A few more tears escaping from your eyes, you wrapped your arms around his shoulders âDonât you ever do this againâ you warned. You hugged him tightly, too scared he would disappear if you ever let him go.
Minho laughed in your arms âIf I get a hug every time I almost die, I will probably do it moreâ he tried to lighten the mood but it didnât go well. You pushed him away, still crying from too many emotions. He was always flirting with you but you knew he was only joking, you detested that it hurt.
âDonât you get anything?â you said, brushing your tears away and getting up. You knew it wasnât the best moment to go weak but you couldnât help it. You just wanted him to know how much he mattered to you, you loved him so much and he didnât even get it.Â
You just wanted Minho to understand why you cared this much. But it seemed like he didnât even care and it broke you more than it should.
Minho watched you as you left him âWhat did I do?â he asked Newt who was next to him.Â
The blond boy shrugged with a little smile âYou really are blind, arenât you?â he said, extending his hand out for Minho to take.Â
The runner was as confused as ever, getting up from the ground âJust go get herâ Newt smiled, patting Minho on the shoulder.
The latter started to search for you without even thinking, not willing to care about the way his body was hurting, he could go to the Medjacks later, also you were a Medjack yourself so everything was okay. He found you sat against a tree at the Deadheads âHiâ he said to announce his arrival, sitting down next to you. âWhatâs happening in this little head of yours?â He wasnât good with words and he knew how clumsy he could sound.
Your cheek was pressed against your knee, legs brought to your chest âNothingâ you mumbled, too pride to admit you liked him.
âPlease tell me. I donât like seeing you like thisâ
With a sigh, you turned your head, facing him âI donât like seeing you hurt. Iâm scared and itâs like you donât careâ Your heart tightened in your chest, it hurt admitting it out loud.
Minho chose his words carefully âI care, I really do. But- Iâm alive, you donât have to worry anymore. And Iâm sorry about the hug joke, I just thought- I donât know⌠that you could enjoy hugging me but⌠I was wrongâ
You froze as he spoke âEnjoy hugging you?â your lips curled into an ironic smile âYou really donât understandâ you wanted to laugh at how oblivious he was.
You took a deep breath before talking âI care so much because⌠I like you Minho. And you make your jokes and I feel like an idiotâ your cheeks were burning hot, you wanted to bury yourself in a tiny hole and never see him again.
âYou⌠like me?âÂ
You squinted your eyes, regretting your confession âDonât make it a big deal. Forget itâ you were about to get up when you felt a hand grabbing your wrist.
You turned around, eyes widening when Minhoâs lips touched yours, his hand coming at the back of your head âDonât you dare tell me to forget it because I like you tooâ he grinned. Minho never expected you to like him, to hide his feelings he joked with you. That was the only way he found to tell you how much he wanted to kiss you, how beautiful you were without making it obvious and he never thought it could hurt you, that was the last thing he wanted to do.
You stayed there, mouth wide open in shock, you always thought he was joking turned out the feelings were actually reciprocal. âYou do?â
Minho nodded, his shit-eating smirk not wanting to leave his face âA lotâ he said before leaning in again, kissing you tenderly.
When you pulled away, you offered him a small smile âIâm sorry for being rude to you. Didnât mean to,â you were a little ashamed of your behaviour when he just got out of the maze, someone snappy was the last thing he needed.
The boy grinned as he pulled you into a hug âItâs okayâ you held him a little tighter and heard him trying to suppress a groan.
âAre you okay?â you asked worried, trying to inspect his body as much as you could, searching for any marks of what happened beyond the walls âWhy did you arrive this late?â
âIâm fine. We started to head back to the Glade when Ben sprained his ankle. We were both exhausted, I had to hold him on the way back but we had to hurry. Wasnât careful enough and this time I was the one falling, hurt my arm but except this, we are both fineâ he didnât try to joke this time and his heart melted when he saw the way you looked at him. Like you cared about him more than anyone else.
Your hand came to cup his cheek âYou have to go to the Medjacksâ you got up and invite him to follow you, grabbing his hand to lead him to the shed.
When you enter the room no one was there, the boys probably already took care of Ben and finished their work for today. âSit thereâ you demanded as you dig in the selves, searching for what you needed.
You turned around, facing Minho who sat on the table âTake off your shirtâ you said, taking a salve between your hands.
Minho raised his eyebrow with a smirk âThis early?â you shot him a glare and he took off his shirt. In revenge, you didnât warn him the balm was going to sting. âOuch,â he yelped.
âCanât you just let me do my job?â
Minho smiled at you, he liked it when you were bossy âYes maâamâ you smacked him on the shoulder one more time.
âShut upâ you refused to accept the heat on your face.
Gally x fem oc (smut)
Summary: Gally and Tiny fuck in the glade somewhere in the open, with a huge risk of being caught. Also, it's dark out.
Warning: fem OC has a name, smut, risk of being caught, cussing, SMUT.
I wrote this because I couldn't get it out of my head, and I want to get back into writing. So I thought I'd start off with small one-shots to get some practice in. Don't forget to comment and leave your thoughts! I'd love to hear them all! I appreciate blunt honesty!
âWe aren't- fuck supposed to be doing this, Tiny,â Gally pants, the girl in question shoving a hand over his mouth as a few gladers stumble by. âSomeone could catch us.â
âOh come on Handsome, we aren't breaking any rules,â Tiny breathes shakily, completely bottomed out while trying to recover from her last orgasm. âBesides, you shouldâve thought about that 4 orgasms ago.â
Gally relaxes as the pleasure spreads throughout his body, âDid you spread this pallet all by yourself? How romantic.â
âWell, I was aiming for comfort, you know Iâd do anything for you. Besides,â Tiny hums, cradling his head, her thumbs rubbing the apple of his cheeks as her boobs stick to his collarbone. âI think this might be my favorite position, Iâve got the best view.â
Tiny resumes the thrusts of her hips, slow, deep, and hard. Both legs burning from the low squat she was in. A sight that makes the boy feel as though he is losing his mind.
Gally couldn't remember how he got here. He swore to himself that the first time would be the last, but heâs a teenage boy with crazy hormones he didn't even know he had until Tiny. He should stop this. He shouldâve stopped this a while ago.Â
âSpeed up, Tiny,â Gally breathes out. Dammit, that was the opposite of stopping this, but Gally couldnât be bothered with any of that now. He couldnât deny himself of the girl any longer.
ââM sorry?â Tiny pants, lurching forward, a hand slamming into the ground as she stopped herself from cumming right then and there. Her knees hitting the ground as her legs started to tremor uncontrollably.
Gallyâs hands slide up Tinyâs thighs, spreading her ass as he pecks her cheek, âFuck me like you mean it.â
Tinyâs heart skips a beat, proceeding to do exactly what he told her to, âYes sir.â
Gally's head falls back onto the pallet, his eyebrows furrowed deeply in concentration, losing himself to the sticky sounds they were making. âShit, I think youâre trying to take my soul.â
âI want a lot more than that.â Tiny grins watching Gallyâs jaw drop open, cumming dryly. âWhat was that?â
âI donât have anything left to-â Tiny cuts Gally off with a hand around his throat and a grip on his balls.
âI know you, Gally. I know what you are. Youâre a slut. A slut that jumps to please others, and I told you I wanted more than your soul, Handsome. So youâll give me what I want, right? Iâll be more than pleased,â Tiny hums, shushing the boy as he starts to groan loudly, thick and hot ropes of his semen filling the girl up perfectly as she continues to massage his balls. Milking him of everything he had to give her.
âRelax, Gally. Youâll pass out if you keep panting like that,â Tiny says, lying down on his chest.
âSee, that wasn't so hard, was it? Good boy.â Tiny praises, kissing his forehead.
âYouâre a terrible person,â Gally chuckles, trying to catch his breath.
Gally - Maze Runner Imagine
1.1K words.
"It's a girl.." A chorus of panicked voices began to speak over each other. A few sounded like they were shushing others but it didn't seem to work.
"Hey, what's in her hand?" A voice piped up, surprisingly louder than the others. A feather light touch was felt on her palm, but she was unable to react.
"She's the last one ever.." A boy read out loud. Multiple voices began talking over one another yet again at his statement.
"Clint, Jeff, take her to your station and get her a bed."
"Got it."
As the girl's consciousness slowly began surfacing, she felt a warm compression placed on her forehead.
Where am I...?
Her eyes slowly fluttered open. Her face lightly scrunches up as she squints against the bright light seeping in through the dusty slats of the med hut she was in. A young male suddenly peeks over her with a cloth, making her shove him away as she jolted up.
"Stay the hell away!" She demanded, her voice wavering from being unused. Her slightly widened eyes glanced around her surroundings in panic.
"Woah, calm down!" The kid tried to reassure her, his hands held out in front of him in a way to try and calm her down before he angled his head towards the opening of the hut, his voice ringing out as his gaze never strayed from her. "Gally! Get over here!"
"Where am I?" Her breathing began to get ragged and uneven while subtly making her way towards the opening with clenched fists. A few tense, silent moments pass as the kid didn't answer.
"Answer me dammit!" She shouted. The kids eyes were wide with uncertainty and slight fear just before another guy had burst into the room, glancing at the guy before looking at her.
"You need to calm down, now." He said gruffly, his hardened expression held authority as he spoke.
"No, you need to tell me where I am and who the hell you people are." She said angrily before quickly grabbing a small, stray log near the corner she was standing at. She gripped the small log tightly as she glared at the two of them.
It wasn't the best choice of a weapon but she'll be damned if she didn't fight her way out of here without one.
"Okay, okay. This is Clint, he's been looking after you, and I'm Gally." The guy said with his hands raised slightly. "Now drop the wood and calm down."
She didn't respond right away, instead continuing her glare as she registered his words. Her eyes glanced between the two of them while slightly adjusting her grip on the makeshift weapon.
"Drop it, now!" Gally suddenly shouted while taking a threatening step towards her. She immediately swung the log at him, but he was quick to dodge it before ripping it out of her hands.
"I told you to calm down." Gally grumbled angrily, taking another step towards her. "Look, I didn't want it to come this far."
Gally's hand reaches out to grasp her arm but she harshly slaps his hand away before he could touch her. He tried once more with an angry sneer but she reached before her mind could even register what she was doing. Her hand clenched into a tight first before throwing a hard punch to his jaw, making him stumble back in pain.
Her eyes widened as his gaze snaps to her, his eyes dark with fury as his face lightly scrunched up. A red splotch had already begun forming where her first made contact on his skin. She suddenly bolted out of the hut, his hands barely missing her shirt.
"Don't touch me!" She spat angrily while pushing herself to run faster as his heavy footsteps were right behind her. His arms suddenly circled around her upper body, holding her biceps against her ribs. She jabbed her elbow in his stomach, making him grunt in pain.
"Stop struggling and just calm down!" Gally strained to speak as he tried to keep her from wriggling out of his grip. The chaotic scene had caught the attention of the other boys.
She digs her fingers into his arms while twisting her body to the side a bit, hooking her leg behind his knee before thrusting herself forward and pulling his arm along with the force. Gally sprung forward, landing onto his side with a loud groan. She slowly backed away from him with a defensive stance as everyone began nearing the two of them, watching with cautious eyes.
Her fists clench together from the fear that bubbled up in the pit of her stomach, slowly creeping up her spine as she watched a few people help Gally to his feet.
"Shit, shit, shit." She repeatedly muttered under her breath as they began surrounding her. She whips her head around, her eyes quickly glancing around in hopes of finding any sort of way out. Just then, two guys came jogging out from between huge ivy covered walls before making their way over to the group.
"Greenie.. Can you please just calm down? I promise no one here is going to hurt you." A blonde headed boy spoke from behind her. Her eyes watched him closely as she tried to keep her composure.
Her breath quietly hitches as a loud rumbling starts up in the distance, emitting from the two concrete walls that slowly began closing shut. "Wh- Where am I?"
She glanced around the group of surrounding males before looking back towards the walls. A few of the boys turn towards the closing maze then back to her with a slight shake of her head. An idea suddenly popped into her mind as she noticed she still had a bit of time to make it before the large concrete walls were fully closed.
"Don't even think about it greenie." Her heart dropped to her stomach as the walls slammed shut. Her hope immediately vanishes as angry tears begin brimming her eyes but she quickly blinks them away before anyone could notice.
"well damn." She mumbled to herself before sighing in defeat, while relaxing her tense shoulders and unclenching her fists. A few of the surrounding boys let out a breath they were holding before walking away when a darker boy gave them a curt nod.
"Look, I know you're scared. We all are when we wake up in the box." Her face hardens at his words before glancing around at the remaining people standing there, her eyes landing on the one she punched.
She took a deep breath, regaining her composure and gathering her pride before making her way over towards him. She watched as he tensed up, his arms falling to his sides with clenched fists.
"I reacted badly in that situation, but I am not sorry for hurting you." She held her head up high while stretching her hand out to him. "I'll make a truce though."
Gally watched her for a few moments, his gaze falling to her outstretched hand before clasping his hand with hers.
"That's gonna be a nasty bruise." She chuckled jokingly while gesturing towards the red splotch on his jaw. Gally simply shook his head with a small smile before walking away with the others.
"Alright greenie, let's give you a proper tour shall we? My name's Alby, by the way." She only smiled in response as he began explaining about the place they call home. She subtly glanced over her shoulder to Gally, finding him already looking at her. She gives him a half smile, to which he responds with the same action.
"Hey, attention back to the tour greenie. You'll be able to socialize later, okay?" Alby chuckled after noticing her attention had been elsewhere, playfully snapping his fingers at her.
"Sorry." She crossed her arms over her chest with an embarrassed smile while giving Alby her full attention.
